I agree! I just watched Slaughter vs Andre 1981 MSG and it was the best Andre match I've ever seen. Sarge bumped his ass off. So under-rated. How he isn't in the Wrestling Observer HOF is beyond me.

Honestly, I don't think there is much to miss about Ryback. I was totally sold on him by the time they pulled the trigger on him, and most live crowds were eating it up. He was an old school ass kicker that may not have been a workrate marvel, but he was charismatic, had awesome impact moves, signature spots, and a great look. People invoke Goldberg a lot due to the physical similarities, but I saw this dude as the early incarnation of Sid. They fucked it up so badly, especially the awful heel turn that just fed Cena.

yeah, he just doesn't really "fit" WWE/hasn't really adapted or developed a personality. Which will only be magnified more once Nakamura shows up. But he could still turn it around, "stranger things have happened".

Itami's also been out for around a year and apparently had a setback that's meant to keep him out several more months. They have a great opportunity to give him a "reboot" whenever he does return.
Hope it works. Talented guy but yeah he's felt pretty well shoehorned into NXT. |

Hideo Itami has been lost in translation somehow. They want to put him over as a fantastic Japanese wrestler, but they haven't really explained what that means. Shinsuke Nakamura is Shinsuke Nakamura in any language. Hideo needs some sort of "evolution." Maybe they should bring him back from his injury with face-paint and a mission?

I can get the criticisms about Ziggler. As a heel with Vickie Guerrero, I thought he was tremendous. I think his original face turn was down-played and he never really got the shot he needed to make it as a main event act. That being said, I find it hard to get excited about him. He's a pinball, but he doesn't have the "gravity" of a major star. He's missing something, and it's not something really easy to pin down like ring work or mic skills. It's not even charisma. He just doesn't have that "heavy" quality. Maybe a heel turn after a "snap" would do him some good?
I can get the things about Edge too. There were times when I loved Edge, but I don't think everything adds up to him being one of the greatest of all-time. I think he's put on a bit of a pedestal by the company. Randy Orton is another guy that is clearly great, but I just don't "get it." I mean, obvious he can work and he can talk and he looks good -- but I don't miss him when he's gone. Ever. Yet he's a guy that makes every great wrestling mind drool -- whether it's Eric Bischoff or Paul Heyman. |

I get the thing about Del Rio being bland too. A phenomenal worker, but it seems that he only ever finds fire when he's allowed to be himself in other promotions. Funny that. Losing to Edge at WrestleMania 27 sucked too.

I'll say this: I don't get how Cena managed to get the WWE by the balls and how he's managed to be jammed into the position for so long. He's had an unbelievable long and unparalleled reign at the top. That's not a nasty criticism of Cena -- the guy has skill and works his ass off. I just find it odd that he's in such rarefied air.

I enjoyed them all but Benoit, Edge, Christian, RVD, Scott Steiner and Booker T are all guys that I didn't get as main event players. They all seemed and were definitely solid mid to upper card guys but I never felt like they belonged completely in the main event scene. They each seemed to lack a certain something, that certain charisma or star power that at least one main event guy needs in a feud of that level. Kind of similar to Roman Reigns currently.

![]() I don't get "The Aztec". He is pretty popular and one of the best known Extreme Showdown wrestlers but I just don't see the appeal. He is not bad by any means but I don't get it why hes considered a top guy |

Mebbe the fact that THe Aztec is just a long haired Mexican has upset The Natives.
I don't get why someone would be so fucking offensive. |

I didn't get The Rock for the longest time. I thought he was obnoxious. So glad when Stone Cold Steve Austin kicked his ass at WrestleMania X-7.

Benoit: I got it with him. The dude had a "I'm the best technical wrestler in the world" charisma, and if you had good taste in professional wrestling, then you secretly knew he was the best the industry had. He wasn't the pop-star, he was the best orchestra in the world. After his awesome rise in 2004, I would have liked to have seen him enter into a more vicious rivalry with Randy Orton eventually. Maybe he was never going to be "the guy," but I think a heel turn later down the line would have given him an intriguing run as the technical machine. Christian: Around 2005 people were BEGGING for this guy to get more attention. Was this a response to the WWE fucking up Benoit and Eddie and trying to be trendy? Maybe. When they did give him main event shots, it felt weird. But Christian was always on the rise and fans were ready to see him actually be given a good shot. He felt out of place more than he should have, in my opinion. There was a presentation problem with the seriousness of how Christian was treated. I think he should have been given MORE of a top reign to see if it would have worked before I think you can write him off as a guy that shouldn't have been there. Scott Steiner: I wasn't really familiar with this guy in WCW. When I saw him, he seemed like a complete fucking jerk, which I guess is him playing the character well. Roided up Scott is someone that I don't want to see in the ring. He just looks like he should break. Dude is a legend though. He's got your perennial top professional wrestler personality. Can't argue with him as a top guy. WWE presenting him as a babyface for so long was what damaged him in that company. Dude should have been a dick and fucked Stephanie in front of Triple H (kayfabe). Booker T: Felt the buzz about this guy when he first showed up in the WWE. I've never enjoyed a heel run from this guy outside of King Booker. Maybe he didn't have the versatility to be a top guy for too long, or maybe some got accustomed to seeing him in the mid-card that it didn't seem like he belonged in the main event, but I got the vibe that Booker was a star when I saw him. |
