His attorney, however, called him last night and asked him "what the f--k are you thinking" as he recently "lost enough money from his divorce." At that point, production cut the mic and played his music. El Patron shouted over the music saying he "has enough voice to scream." His music played louder. Rhea Ripley is hot and Australian. Sign me up. She's only 20, so I imagine there are going to be a lot of green girls in that tournament, but I wouldn't mind seeing her bullied by The Iconic Duo in NXT.

Paige seems to have really fucked him up though. I find Del Rio to be a massive asshole these days. Pretty much everything he does, I find annoying.

Before, I really liked the guy.

I really can't remember reading about Del Rio being this bad before he got with Paige, unless I've missed a few stories from the past.

I feel like WWE may be the most unorganized major company in the world. Most of that feeling is just from the stuff you see on TV with the constant changing their mind and complete lack of order. But every once in a while, something like this happens.

Get it with Del Rio, but I kind of miss Paige. Looking at the RAW women's roster, assuming we had to do a one-on-one Women's Title match at Mania, I'd like to see it be Paige vs. Sasha Banks. Feels like that could get the most interest.

Their car crash lifestyles make me simultaneously sad and kind of excited by them, because they do whatever the fuck they want. I wish more people in the position to turn that into money had that attitude.

News of one of the more surprising WWE releases in some time came today, with WWE announcing in the late afternoon that Austin Aries is no longer with the company.

WWE posted a statement on their website: "WWE has come to terms on the release of WWE Superstar Austin Aries. WWE wishes Aries the best in all of his future endeavors."

Not long before the news of his release was announced, Aries tweeted: "It's a beautiful day." He followed up by posting three emojis (a banana, a smiling face with sunglasses, and a thumbs up) when the news came out. We can confirm that he asked to be released.

Aries had been scheduled to challenge for Neville's Cruiserweight Championship at tonight's house show at Madison Square Garden until recently. He was replaced by Cedric Alexander.

After his lengthy feud over the title with Neville ended, Aries' last appearance on WWE TV came on the June 20th episode of 205 Live. He continued his partnership with Jack Gallagher, which was formed the week before when Aries claimed that he wasn't medically cleared to compete due to neck and leg issues.

There was a situation before that where Aries seemed to indicate on an episode of Busted Open Radio that he was taking time off due to injuries, but he later denied that was the case when asked about it in an interview with USA Today.
Quote:
According to PWTorch.com, Aries requested his release from the company, and it was granted, as he was unhappy being pigeonholed as a Cruiserweight, and saw much more potential for himself outside of the role he was given on 205 Live.

>The report added that one source noted Aries had a bad attitude backstage in WWE, which might have made the decision easier for WWE officials to grant him his release. It’s likely Aries will end up back on the indie scene following his release, and he could also end up back in Ring of Honor or GFW if he is offered a return deal from either of those companies.
Some updates on the Aires situation

Raw General Manager Kurt Angle recently spoke to the Dallas Observer about the event, and the interviewer couldn’t help but ask him about the name. Angle says that the show was dubbed Great Balls of Fire simply because Vince McMahon thought the name was hilarious, and he expects that this event will return in the future.

“That’s a pretty incredible name for a wrestling show, isn’t it? The head honcho Vince McMahon thought that the name was hilarious, and that’s pretty much the entire story. You never know when it comes to Vince, but he’s usually right, so we trust him. Vince loves the name, so I expect it to become an annual event.”

Ambrose: I literally just wouldn't leave. I just kept goin "Come on,". I was - I was like "They're safe! They're stupid!" I was like "Vince, these marks, they're stupid. They love 'em. Guys like me and you, we're smart..., we know it's safe." Finally he was just sick of me being in his office and he was just like...

Ambrose: I'm like "Yeah. Loves it. His idea."

(Vince): (exasperated gasp 2)... fine.

Ambrose: (laughing)

Jericho: So- so then I'm thinking like "listen did you wanna go in the thumbtacks? Do... uhh. Go for it man, good on 'ya." And then when he gets the approval... the finish of the match is him going over and I'm like ..."well he can't go in the thumbtacks and win... Thumbtacks has to be the worst thing! You get thrown in thumbtacks, you're done!" So then I realize... "Holy shit! I have to take the bump in the thumbtacks?! It's the only way! It's the only way!" In seeking to confirm Hardy's social media claims, PWInsider.com spoke with several sources who, under condition of anonymity, stated that all sides agreed to a deal in principle.

In a deal that it is believed Billy Corgan helped mediate, PWInsider.com has been told that all sides would have released a statement wishing each other well and would have agreed to no longer comment on each other publicly. The Hardys would have been able to utilize the "Broken" gimmick and (one would assume) Anthem Media would have received some sort of payment in exchange.

WWE was not involved in the deal, according to multiple sources.

The deal was then drafted by the Hardys' lawyers and sent to Anthem Media's Ed Nordholm to sign off on, but for whatever reason, several weeks have gone by without a response from Nordholm or any indication that the agreement was actually going to be signed.

One source stated that when Nordholm received the agreement in writing, he claimed that it wasn't what the two sides agreed upon, but confirmed that since that point, there had been no additional communication with the Hardys' side ...

A number of sources we spoke with today believed that unless Nordholm signs off on the agreement, the Hardys will have no last recourse but to file a lawsuit seeking ownership of the gimmick.

The Fatal Five-Way Elimination Match at Battleground is set to feature Charlotte Flair vs. Lana vs. Becky Lynch vs. Tamina Snuka vs. Natalya on July 23rd in Philadelphia.

Meltzer provided an explanation for WWE booking multiple person matches, explaining they're able to protect people without having to write strong personal storylines.

"Well, you know, that's what they're doing a lot of right now," Meltzer stated. "The thing with multi-person matches is you can always gimmick the finishes so nobody has to lose and it's easier for the bookers when you do that and plus when you have multiple person matches, inherently you're not going to do strong personal storylines so you don't have to worry about writing good stories because you know, you can do a little heat where they're all mad at each other, but that's all you can do in a multiple person match."

The line where he talked about his real life being better than his fantasy life was something of a shoot in the sense he’s now based in Los Angeles and having a great time in his non-wrestling life. He was also legit not happy at the breakup of the team, because in reality, it’s hard to see what his prospects are on his own given the way he’s been portrayed as a guy who is a joke when facing real competition

Cass has some heat, particularly with his views on politics as he’s a strong Trump supporter in a locker room where many don’t share those views, but management is super high on him and unlike with Enzo, the reaction of the wrestlers to him will not affect his push, at least right now. But the reaction to him is pale compared to that of Enzo

Former WWE writer Brian Mann was a guest on Live Audio Wrestling's Review-a-Smackdown where he gave an interesting tidbit on WWE's use of fancam footage in documenting the title change from the recent MSG house show.

This is in reference to the opening video package of this week's SD Live.

It should be noted, and I'm gonna say this from firsthand, some of those are planted fan videos. When I was there at Summerslam (2011), I actually was sent into the crowd to film Kevin Nash on my cell phone so that we would have, and then we planted it on some fake Youtube account, but it was from the company. We planted fan footage.

...'cause clearly they knew a title change was gonna happen and I don't know if neccessarily every fan at ringside was just shooting at exactly the time the finish was coming. So maybe one or two of those, not to be unfair to the company, one or two of those might not be on the up.

Unlike the cruiserweight tournament where they had figured everyone they liked would sign and that didn't happen, there is no avenue for the women to make big money in wrestling outside of WWE like there is for men, so it would be a surprise for anyone offered a deal to turn it down.
WWE had a lot more trouble trying to get contracts signed prior to the event than with the UK and CWC tournaments.

Some wanted him gone, since that would be the reaction from the corporate side, but realized until the case is settled that probably wouldn’t be the best option.

Others on the wrestling side, where the old school history is to back stars and cover up or overlook indiscretions in the past (the modern world makes that tougher) wanted to keep him, believing him to be a big deal, with the idea he may help them sell tickets to events or improve their television deal status both domestically and internationally with the idea of selling his star power based on Twitter followers and Hispanic media reach. There was also the thought that when Paige’s contract with WWE expires, that she may come here and they see her as a potential major star. But even from that side, it was clear right now he had to be suspended.

It's just dumb. It's wrong and it's out of touch, which explains a lot about the SmackDown product. It's also not a good public face for someone who is currently the head writer of one of your shows. "See, the thing is, people are dumb and will get used to anything I put out." Have some pride in your work.

But Road Dogg is constantly falling for dudes working him on Twitter and biting on bait set by the fans. He's one of those people who needs their Twitter account to be micro-managed.

Probably, in the end it makes no difference. They have replaced pyro with Led's .. probably safer and maybe less for insurance

I have to agree with Road Dogg. I'm sure in three months nobody will care because we'll all be used to it.

A good chunk of wrestling fans seem to be very protective of what they watch and along with some of them wearing their nostalgia glasses, they don't like change unless it's change that they want.

When the ropes changed to white a few years back, some fans complained. About a month or so later, nobody cared about the ropes.

When the stages for Raw and SmackDown changed to the HD setup, people complained. Again, a month or so later, nobody cared.

When Titantrons were scrapped in favour of what we have now, people complained, but now nobody cares.

And I really don't need to go into detail about when changes are made to the designs of championships.

But that's (some) wrestling fans for you.

Personally, I will miss pyro and I'm sure guys like Kane and special appearances from, for example, Batista (if that ever happens) will have their pyro but to me, it's no big deal.

Anyway, with the amount of cold openings Raw done before the second split, I'm used to not seeing pyro all the time.

People still hate the ropes when they distract from the product. The 205 Live ropes still get criticized all the time.

It's not that nobody cared about the set designs. Every so often, things will come up like "How do you set the shows apart" and people say "different sets." It was like one of the most common pieces of input you'd see around the place.

I STILL hate the championship belt designs, but hate how they are booked even more.

There's a difference between people not caring and people just dropping an issue because it's done and they have to deal with it. People get sick of homogenization, and they eventually do things like stop watching show in enough numbers that you drop from #2 to #6.

Besides, the point isn't actually about the pyro, it's about Road Dogg being a public figure and talking down to audiences. Even if you do hold contempt for people, you don't go public with it and air it. "Unprofessional" isn't even the right word. It's Russo-level shit. Plus, it's more of that Vince McMahon/CyNick-spouted (in the wrestling sense, you see it all over the place) millennial trope bullshit that has been myth-busted time and time again. No, they're not lazy. No, they aren't dumb. No, their attention spans aren't worse. It's an old dude myth that gets perpetuated because it feels intuitively true to old dudes without anything to back it up. It fucks with every logic center in my brain.

It's talking out your ass. Someone in Road Dogg's position should not be doing that on Twitter. Period. Talk out your ass as a punter all you want. People will bust your balls with facts and data when they feel the need. But when you are in the position of representing the creative direction of a stagnant company, don't show yourself to be an ass-talker. Fuck's sake.

I admit I dont follow that avidly anymore but arent ratings down quite brutally across time? It seems a bit of a narrow view to think no one cares about those things if ratings are down.

I'm not saying thats necessarily the reason but any business taking a "they will get used to it approach" when one of its key metrics is falling seems short sighted to me.

Pyro is definitely noticeable. It definitely gets the crowd to react, even if it was just for the opening of a show. Definitely adds to "characters" to, when properly applied.

They should still do shit like that for "PPV's". Something needs to set them apart. If the PPV's start to feel like weekly program (as they are more and more), I will be inclined to cancel the sub and forget about it altogether.

I stopped weekly over a year ago and it increased my enjoyment of what I did watch when I watched PPV's. But if they get bland like weekly programming, yea....

It's just another symptom of how boring and samesy it all is. It might be a small thing, but it's all those small things together that make the product to boring and unimaginative.

Making everything look the same is not going to help that

No, it's not, and it's a symptom of them needing to cut costs. I personally don't give a shit about pyro, but it reminds me of when the crowd was chanting "Fire Russo!" and Dixie Carter's response was to say "It wasn't even Russo who wrote that segment!". Um, there is a grander point here being missed...

Do you think they should attempt to make the PPV's "different" or stand out or anything?

Perhaps use pyro/effects ONLY on PPV's and/or mix up the set design just a bit. I dunno man, it is all starting to blend and become same same.
