Twins get shitty players to finalize shitty deals that were made in the past. Shitty single A guys, whats the point of "players to be named later" anyway? Are they ever good?

The Mets reportedly have made an offer to Vladimir Guerrero, and now may have more than just a puncher's chance to snag the coveted free agent.


The Mets offered Guerrero a three-year deal, according to several published reports. The deal is worth $30 million, and could be worth up to $40 million if Guerrero meets all the incentive clauses, according to Newsday.


The Orioles have a standing offer of five years and $65 million, which is below what Guerrero expected to get on the open market. Since Baltimore has not upped its offer recently, the door may be more than slightly ajar for the Mets, even though they cannot match the Orioles in terms of money or years.


According to The New York Times, Mets officials are "not very hopeful, but who knows?" Mets general manager Jim Duquette refused comment on Guerrero's status during a conference call on Thursday. The Mets did not intend to go after any "big ticket" free agents this winter, but their success in adding Kazuo Matsui and Mike Cameron may have changed their thinking on Guerrero.


A source familiar with Guerrero told Newsday on Thursday that he has grown reluctant to sign with Baltimore.


The Mets believe the lure of playing in New York -- and staying in the National League -- would appeal to Guerrero, but they are not willing to move beyond a three-year offer after getting burned by the Mo Vaughn trade before the 2002 season. Vaughn's career is currently in jeopardy, after announcing Thursday that he will miss the entire 2004 season due to severe knee problems.


Both the Mets and Orioles have expressed some concern about the back problems Guerrero suffered last season.


Guerrero missed close to two months last season because of a herniated disk but was terrific after returning, finishing the season with a .330 average, 25 home runs and 79 RBI for the Expos.

Hey, when he left the Red Sox, he said he wanted to play closer to home...

So, it only took a decade, and brief stops in Toronto and NY, but he finally has what he wanted...

They were saying on the radio, part of Clemens deal is a 10yr personal service contract, which means when he doesn't want to pitch, he'll do apperances and stuff...

Think he's going to try and wear an Astros hat into the hall of fame?

The O's just lost a good pitcher to the Devil Rays. Damien Moss has left the up and coming O's for the basement dwelling Rays. Dam that really sucks for the O's.

I don't know though, I'm more scared of the O's then the Jays. I know the O's don't have great pitching and losing Moss didn't help, but look what the Royals did last year with their pitching. The AL East is probably the best division right now.

So I was watching Around the Horn on ESPN and they showed a story in the New York Times about how Steinbrenner might make a deal for A-Rod because of the loss of Aaron Boone. Jeter would move to third and A-Rod would play short. LOL this would really drive a stake right through Boston fan's hearts.

Nothing would shock me, but I doubt it.

Even still, NY is hurting for pitching and as they proved, it's pitching that wins, not hitting.

Nah, If BROWN doesn't get hurt, they will be ok. It was really their middle relief pitching that KILLED them last year in the Series. And remember Wells got injured in like the 2nd inning in one of those games and they brought in Weaver, who hadn't pitched in the longest time, and he got killed. But they beefed up their middle relief with Gordon and Quantrill to set up Rivera along with Contreras, so they'll be alright.

Time will tell.

Pedro and Brown are both injuries waiting to happen (although, no one seems to notice Pedro's been rather healthy the last few years).

Dunno, I'm just more sold on the sox staff then the Yanks...

which is a first, I'm a sox fan and have always seen the Yanks with a better staff. Plus the Sox have a better pen right now.

But I wouldn't be shocked to see both teams pull of some more deals in the next few weeks.
