Best Wrestler #9

Round 1 is in the books. A few great matches, a few blowouts. Now we start Round 2. And folks, I've looked at the matchups and I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt, Round 2 is going to cum all over the best set of tits you've ever seen. And it starts with a battle that can only happen when Mega Powers explode!

"Macho Man" Randy Savage

vs.

Hulk Hogan

3 days.

Notice I said on the business and not outside the business. Hogan is bigger world wide and non-wrestling fans know who he is, but any fan of wrestling even the kiddies recognize Macho Man just as well as Hogan. Hogan had a MUCH bigger impact on the world but Savage and him both had huge impacts in the wrestling world.

One could argue they are one and the same in the larger picture. Not entirely sure if I agree with that, but I can see where he could be coming from.

I'd still say business-wise it's Hogan and then a pretty big gap. Hogan in his time was THE guy and everyone else was just a supporting character. Granted that Savage was arguably THE top supporting character but as far as who helped the business thrive, I don't think it's that close.

Are they close to the same level as far as recognition within wrestling? Yeah. You'd be hard pressed to find any wrestling fans who don't know of either one. But there's a difference between being recognizable within the business and having an impact on the business. On the latter, I don't think it's that close.

True enough I suppose. It's all about perception I guess. Honestly though I'd think that given the fact that allot of guys seem to imitate Macho Man even today that he's got a very lasting legacy in the business. He may not have made nearly as much money as Hogan but he must have done something right to get so many people to 'channel' his stuff over the years.

As a kid, I enjoyed Randy Savage more.

As a teen, I enjoyed Hollywood Hogan more.

As an "adult", I enjoy Randy Savage more. Talking about when I go back and watch old stuff obviously.

Macho Man wins two falls out of three.

I don't know I guess I'm looking at it from a fan perspective instead of a business one. I mean do you think that kids today who love wrestling are gonna look back and think only of Cena when they remember WWE? I gotta believe guys like Orton, HHH, and even Punk will be regarded as legends in their time.

That doesn't mean they're remotely equivalent. I mean, the Rock and Austin are thenames of the Attitude Era, and while there were others, the recognition falls off starting right there.

Exactly but Hogan and Macho Man were basically the Rock and Austin of the 80's.

On another note I just realized that this may be the first time in wrestling that there hasn't been 2 'top' guys. I mean look at the 80's and even early 90's you got Macho and Hogan, you arguably had Bret and HBK for a while, and the Attitude Era had Rock and Austin, but since then it's been sorta bleh. Then comes Super Cena but to this day we don't have another side to that coin. Makes me sad really.

Well from that standpoint I stand by my vote then as I've enjoyed Hogan's work since I was a kid but allot of Macho's stuff never got me interested until I went back and saw it again recently.

'Course my whole outlook on this one is from looking back as I didn't start watching until the mid 90's when both guys were starting to 'step down' a bit.

Ah so this is why CM Punk was mad.

You know how I said in the last poll, which was between Hogan and Benoit, that there were only a couple of people that I'd vote over Hulk Hogan but Chris Benoit isn't one of them?

Well, my friends, Randy Savage is.

"Macho Man" all the way.

Randy Savage was a better wrestler, had more charisma, and was better on the mic than Hulk Hogan.

Every "Macho Man" promo was unique, where Hogan did the same shit over and over again.

I do too. And even then, something just makes me wanna go Savage. I feel like I'm brainwashed a little into remembering being more entertained by Hogan than I really was and less entertained by Savage than I really was by the way I've seen them since their WWF days.

Hogan was the Rock and Austin of the 80's. Nobody comes remotely close to touching him in that regard, not even (for all of his greatness) Randy Savage.

If you want to vote for Hogan over Savage in terms of overall impact on the wrestling business, bringing exposure to the wrestling business and merchandise sales, go ahead.

But you can't say he was a better in-ring performer or was better on the mic than "Macho Man".

I didn't say who I think is better in those regards. But to flat out say Savage was the better promo guy and especially the more charismatic guy and it's not even close is complete (excuse the pun) madness.

You're remembering Hogan's catchphrases and forgetting everything that came in between whilst forgetting that Savage did pretty much the same thing. They cut very similar promos. They were both great, especially from 1986-ish through to around 1989/1990.
