I'm sure a search would bring up results, but here's the short version:

Owen Hart was working under a gimmick called the "Blue Blazer." Basically, he was a comedic superhero. It was a gimmick he'd had in his youth that Vince saddled him with again in 1999 during his quest for the Godfather's IC title.

At Over The Edge 1999, the two were scheduled for a match. As part of Owen's entrance, he was to be lowered to the ring on a winch (like Sting did on an almost-weekly basis on Nitro) to play up his superheroness.

It's not quite clear what happened up there, but Owen wound up falling from the arena's rafters into the ring, hitting his head on a turnbuckle, killing him instantly.

All kinds of lawsuits were thrown around after this. The harness makers were blamed. The cable makers were blamed. The popular theory that Owen was given the Blazer gimmick as punishment for refusing to take a more risque gimmick. So, naturally, Vince is blamed (with good reason, imo).

But honestly, it was probably just one of those freak things. As mentioned before, this stunt had been done hundreds of times in wrestling arenas, but this time it didn't work out and the industry lost one of the true good guys.

I know it's all speculation now but if he hadn't hit his head on the turnbuckle would he have possibly survived ? Any guess on how long the drop was?

He still would have suffered some huge injuries. He fell 90 feet (27.4 m) into the ring, which is the equivalent of falling out of a nine-story building. Even if he hadn't hit his head, he probably would have broken almost every bone in his body.

At least he would be alive.

Considering it is a wrestling ring and has some give to it, if he had landed directly on his feet he would have broken every single bone in each leg, but he would be alive today.

On a related and somewhat interesting note, I read somewhere that he actually yelled for the referee to get out of the way as he fell. Talk about a guy who didn't deserve to die.

Owen wasn't number 1 because ending the show on a sad note is less fun than ending it on discussion of the beer truck, which is lots of fun. And yeah, seeing and hearing both Bret Hart and Jeff Jarrett on a WWE show was a bit of a shock.

The Jeff Jarrett bit was an old recording from the memorial show.

Only the Bret Hart one was new.

You got a good point there. This was actually discussed a bit during RAW's 10th Anniversary, that many thought Owen's accident would have been the number one moment. But the Austin beer truck was. So Owen was moved towards the end, but not the very end of the show.

I actually missed this show, so I'll have to watch it after RAW.

did you not see my explanation. I haven't seen it, but I'm positive it was from the days he was in Stamford filming his DVD.

Just to elaborate on the Owen thing for the guy that didn't know - Owen was released from his harness when his snap shackle broke, and he fell a measured 78 feet. The snap shackle was purchased internationally by those in charge of the stunt, and they didn't realise, or neglected to take note of the fact, that it was meant to be used on sailboats, and realistically, couldn't hold much more than 25 pounds of pressure.

Make sense why the Owen moment wasn't number 1, just as long as it was at the top. It was that one moment I cried like a baby because yeah, he was the reason I got into wrestling and just like that, he was gone and just the way they all talked about him showed how really great the man truly was.

And as for the other moments, I completely forgot how really really raunchy the shows used to be. LOL @ Chyna/ Snow moment being said by JR.
