I actually think that there was a little bit of that in their characters, they just didn't play up on it much. I remember Jim Ross saying something about Melina liking two guys at once, and when he first broke away from MNM, Mercury was kind of "ambiguous" in the ring.

Yeah, but those were offhand cracks. There was no real depth of character generated to believe it.
