The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior

http://www.beyondhollywood.com/the-s...n-dvd-in-2008/

Earlier this year we heard that Russell Mulcahy will be directing a sequel (or prequel, actually) to “The Scorpion King”, the 2002 movie starring The Rock that was itself a prequel to Stephen Sommers’ “The Mummy” movies. According to Reuters, the film, to be called “The Scorpion King: Rise of the Akkadian”, will be going straight to DVD, and will land at Blockbluster shelves everywhere in 2008 under Universal’s Originals banner. In fact, principal photography on the direct-to-DVD sequel has already begun this month in Cape Town, and is set to star Michael Copon (the N’s “Beyond the Break”) as the young Mathayus (the original character played by The Rock in the original).

More:

“Akkadian” follows the events before “Scorpion,” the 2002 summer hit that starred Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Mathayus, the fearsome warrior king of an ancient desert empire. The new production tells the story of young Mathayus’ rise to become the Scorpion King. Michael Copon (the N’s “Beyond the Break”) stars as the young Mathayus. The film also features Simon Quarterman, Karen David, Ralf Moeller and Ultimate Fighting Championship king Randy Couture.
