Ever been in one or seen one? I've read about them for years, but have never partaken in a brawl, or witnessed one happening. I have respect for wrestling, but it's pretty childish that some people literally get into fist fights with strangers over entertainment. Anyhow, if you have some good stories about this topic, please post em'.

All I've seen were people yelling at each other.
"CENA SUCKS!" "CENA DOESN'T SUCK!" "YOU SUCK!" "FUCK YOU!" "GO FUCK CENA!" "YOU WOULD!" "FUCKING FAGOT!" |

I attended ECW One Night Stand 2006 in the 3rd row. Right after the show, someone who must've been in his early 20s ran up to the guy behind me and yelled at him "That's my chair!" since we get to take home the chairs. I saw the guy behind me the whole show sitting with his young son. The father said very calmly that it was his chair and he was sitting there the whole time. The young guy took a swing and punched the father in the face, giving him a bloody nose. The people around me tried to catch the guy but he was unfortunately too fast and ran off.
Well, not exactly a fight but whatever. Being in NY I've seen many fights at wrestling shows but was never around them to see how they got started. |

Well, this one's a little different from fans fighting fans, but it's within the topic I'd say. I was at ROH Final Battle 2008, and Austin Aries just turned heel. He has some words with a fan, and then fan jumps over and attacks Aries, who basically kicks his ass. As Aries is leaving the fan still wanted some more. Referee Paul Turner was trying to stop it, but ends up choking this dude out. It was crazy. When it was all done Paul Turner got a "Next World Champ" chant from the NYC crowd.

My brother beat the living piss out of some motherfucker at a show (either a WCW taping or a Smackdown house show) who stood on his chair and spat over all us around him thinking he was The Sandman.
I had a pull apart with a guy at a WWF UK only PPV. He started shouting at kids because they were running to the barrier to see the wrestlers. This dude was still taller sitting on his seat but he started cursing at them and thinking he was all tough so a couple of people put him and his buddies in their place and we went chest to chest but nothing happened. |

thedamndest - Those are two highly different things. I'm talking about one fan wanting to fight the other because they like two different wrestlers. It's different with what happened at Survivor Series 97'. That was real. A human being's career was destoryed, and was humiliated publicly. For anyone to taunt him or his fans during that time is extremely disrespectful, and warrants an ass-whipping.

I hate to say this, but Bret's lack of success in WCW wasn't his fault. Look at the bookers and the writers. Vincent Kennedy McMahon gave WCW a stacked deck, and they played their cards wrong. Vincent Kennedy McMahon gave Bret the greatest gift ever on his way out the door, that was horribly misused. Let's not argue "who screwed who" because it has been over a decade and at the 20th anniversy of this we'll still be arguing about this. The simple fact is Bret was given a hell of a platform to jump off of and dive into a pool of success, but WCW turned it into a Greg Louganis. |

Why is the first 'screw job' never/hardly ever mentioned?

I think Bret summed it up in his documentary when he said the WWF murdered the Hitman character, because Bret was never the same after that. Bret Hart is fine, and it was Bret Hart, the person who wrestled in WCW. And I hope Bret Hart will be around for a long, long time. But that Hitman character died on Sunday, November 9th, 1997.

So what does that have to do with those people in the crowd "deserving" to get beaten over the outcome of a fake sport and you not even knowing what they said or did?

If they were taunting Bret, and/or his fan base at that moment, then they had it coming. It would have been one thing if the screwjob never happened, and they attacked them just for being HBK fans, but that wasn't the case.

What next? If a girl's jeans are too tight you can rape them because they're asking for it? If a fast food place put onions on your burger when you said no onions you can throw it at the cashier's face? If the pizza guy is 5 mins late you can just take the pizza without paying? Where is your logic? |

Taunting is different then all of that. Taunting is literally asking for a fight. If they asked for it, they were given it, and that is why I see no problems with it. Plus, I think almost everyone in that building knew it was Bret's last match in the WWF, and I think they could tell based on Bret's reaction, something was wrong. Really wrong. Emotions were very high, and one thing I love about Canadian wrestling fans is their passion for the wrestling business, and that they truly appreciate good guy characters like Hulk Hogan and Bret Hart. Besides the free health care, not being racist, not having nearly as much violence as we do here in the States, and being more down-to-earth, I've always wanted to live in Canada because I've always shared their love for Hogan and Bret. And for any American fans and/or Shawn Michaels fans to stand there the night of the screwjob, and provoke the Canadian people, and defend and cheer for a guy who showed total disrespect to their country's flag, and taunt them, and a wrestler like Bret Hart who brings a lot of pride to their country is wrong and is asking for trouble. There's a guy in the front row at the 97' Survivor Series that is holding a sign that says "Screw Canada. God bless America, and God bless Shawn Michaels", and I hope he was one of those guys who got popped in the mouth!
It's one thing to have pride in your country, but to disrespect another that is not your enemy is a totally different thing. I'm an American and I cheered for LOUDLY for the Hart Foundation when they came to Austin, Texas in the summer of 1997, but I never said anything bad about America, and I never did anything to disrespect the country, or it's flag, and Bret Hart never once did anything disrespectful to the red, white, and blue flag either during his anti-USA run, but Shawn Michaels however showed total disrespect to Canada, and their flag, time in and time out, and his fans did the same, proving what a bad role model Shawn Michaels was. Most HBK fans are exactly the same, and they, like their hero, like to push people's buttons, and I think if any DX fans got beat up that night, they said or did something to deserve it. And I think those HBK fans knew they'd get hit, and I think if they knew fists were coming, they have no right to whine. I think the Canadians, like Bret when he punched Vince out that night, felt it was the right thing to do, and the honorable thing to do as well, because when you compare the two countries of American and Canada, and try to figure out who is more evil, it's all America. Statistically, and in the world of wrestling. Because in Canada, heroes like Bret Hart and Hulk Hogan were cheered for like they were gods, whereas bad guy characters like Shawn Michaels, (a prima-donna) Stone Cold Steve Austin, (a school-yard bully), and The Rock, (another prima-donna) got booed out of the building in Canada. In closing, I trust most of the Canadian wrestling fans, and if they assaulted any Shawn Michaels fans, I believe they did it out of respect to their country. Canada and Bret got a big spit in the face by the WWF that night, so Bret spitting on Vince, hitting Vince, and the Bret Hart fans attacking HBK fans were all deserved, and I think in the end, considering what happened to Bret, I'd say it all evened out. |

FourFifty kind of has a point. I like Bret Hart, but if you cant go out as champ, you can go out as the 'never beaten' champ and it took the c€o of the company to make an ass out of himself to kill a legend/dynasty.

I cant understand why Bret wasn't debuted with a promo where he talks about still being a world champion and then challenge the winner of the Hogan /sting program in a title unification match. They should have had him go over and challenge shawn michaels to a "proper match" . Of course shawn would never show up.
When Bret eventually did turn heel they could have played on the "HITMAN" as the guy who went out and took out all the competition in a brutal fashion. Bret VS hogan would have been epic but it was given away with no real build up on Nitro. Bret Vs Sting: for rights to the Sharpshooter Bret Vs Goldberg: Technical excellence Vs Brute Force Actually scratch that last one. |

I was responding to your claim in this thread with a previous quote. It would have looked pretty silly to pull up the other thread and do it the other way around.
The real point wasn't to discuss Montreal again, but the inconsistency in your two statements. You have given your answer. Done. |
