To me, a smark is a special mark. Meaning a mark that, sure he's in "the know", but he's also a mark in some regard. You can't watch wrestling and not be a mark in some way.

Hell, I got my girlfriend into wrestling, and now she's a Kennedy mark. But I've made sure that she's also a smark, in that she knows what's really going on, and what the difference between storyline and reality is. It isn't easy, what with WWE blurring the lines lately.

Do you know how hard it is to explain the Hardy-Edge-Lita fiasco without thinking about suicide?

Tell that to the smarks around here though.

Most of the people who name themselves as "smarks" don't really confess to being marks. They're also generally misinformed on some level.

Honestly, I don't mind that interpretation, it's just out of synch with the way most of the self-proclaimed "smarks" act.

Everyone who watches wrestling is a mark or an idiot. If you're not watching wresting because you like it, you are an idiot. And yet, so many of these wretling fans are so quick to claim they're not marks.

Or they're an idiot...on some level.

I consider myself a smark, in the sense that I'm a mark "in the know".

I think the definition of "mark" is equivalent to the debate on "n00b" vs. "newbie". To most, a "n00b" is a person that acts like a moron and doesn't know shit about shit, while a "newbie" is simply somebody who is new to a forum but still acts like a normal human being.

In some regards, there are two definitions of "mark". The one that most smarks hold to is that a mark is a person who can't distinguish reality from storyline and who thinks that the wrestlers really are who their characters are, even in real life. But to me and you and other intelligent people a mark is simply someone who likes to watch wrestling and can suspend disbelief while watching it, much like people can be submersed into a really good movie and whatnot.

(Much better than my "stupid moms and garbage wrestling" argument, no? )

What about a 'Spark'? That could mean 'Special Mark' or 'Bob Holly Fan'
