Windows update doesn't work with copied versions of Windows now?

Yeah, just bought virtually a brand new PC in bits and pieces (long story) and after setting all the drivers and whatnot up, first thing I do when I get online is to download Windows updates, says my CD key = copied (which it is

) so I can't download anything from Windows update now

Dunno how secure my PC is gonna be without all those updates, is it worth just buying XP or anyone know a way around it?
