The ring is the all important thing I reckon.

Still, it shouldn't matter to the guy, he's earning through the roof for staters and at the end of the day, they need somebody to boo, if Boston aren't in town who else is it gonna be?

And the run he gave up was really really cheap. Barrett's HR BARELY cleared the wall of the Crawford Boxes. and the rook the Cubs started let 11 guys get on base and gave up no runs.All in all a very very lucky win.

Yankees lose and the Red Sox win. Lead is back down to 2. Don't think the Sox have a game tomorrow so hopefully we go in with a 2.5 game lead.

Had a question though, what's the minimum at-bats needed to be considered for the league leaders in batting?

Scott Downs' six wins:

#1 vs. BAL 6/6. Pitched one inning, in which he gave up a double and 2 walks, blowing a 3-2 lead. Alex Rios later hits a 2 run homer in a spectacular display of Downs' winning ability.

#2 vs. PHI 7/1. Pitched one inning, allowing no runs to keep the score 0-0. The next half-inning, he transported his win knowledge to Troy Glaus and Eric Hinske, who prceeded to homer and get Downs the win he deserved.

#3 vs. SEA 7/15. Bengie Molina was so inspired by Downs' scoreless 14th he proceeded to lace a single in the bottom half with Lyle Overbay on second. Downs' winniness had begun to spread to all players on the roster.

#4 vs. SEA 7/16. The Blue Jays made it clear Downs pitching in extra innings motivates them to start hitting. The Mariners offense was overmatched by Downs' winning ability as evidenced by the 3 Blue Jay singles off George Sherrill in the bottom of the 11th.

#5 vs. OAK 7/28. Downs not only stifled Oakland's offense, but gave his bullpen mates a rest as well, giving up just 2 hits and a homer in 0.1 game-saving innings. Justin Speier and BJ Ryan, who combined for 3.2 scoreless in relief of Downs, later begged for Downs to teach them the ways of the win.

#6 vs. MIN 8/13. I have nothing funny to say about this one. The Twins suck



While Chad Gaudin may have an ERA a full run lower than Downs at 7 years younger, some question when Gaudin will improve his win factor.

Took about 10 minutes to look at the game summaries. I've seen him pitch maybe twice this year

What?

64 career minor league starts, 10 career major league starts. He is perfectly capable of starting but the A's have no reason to start him due to how effective he's been out of the pen.

Whether or not Gaudin can spot start doesn't change the fact that Downs didn't do anything in 5 of his 6 "wins" that supposedly make him so impressive

It still baffles my mind that the Jays let Gaudin go. He had some nasty stuff, mainly his slider.

Hinske was looking good in his role this year. I don't know if he could put together the type of first year numbers he did, but he was valuable in Toronto this season... moreso than I thought he'd be. I wish him well. He remained positive in his diminshed role, something you couldn't say about Hillenbrand.

Hinske strikes out at the worst possible time. I think that why I disliked him so much, because he wasn't bad in the field
