Yes, it would. If Player A is on a whole nother level than Player B, Player A should win, not Player B.

Yahoo still has Mauer .2 points higher than Jeter. Man, he has sure dropped in the last month or two though.
Also, am I the only one who has never heard the Pittsburgh Pirates referred to as the Bucs? It is on the headline on ESPN.com right now, and while I was almost certain I could figure it out, I still had to check. Granted, it probably had more to do with fitting the headline in than anything else, but pirates are not bucaneers. Bucaneers were pirates, so were corsairs, technically, so is YOUR Hero for sharing his child porn collection, but I don't see ESPN running with that now do I? |

Just as "Carmines" is a nickname for the Red Sox or the "Fighting Showalters" is used for the Rangers. It's not a Chicago thing. Trust me. |

Yeah, Jeter went hitless the rest of the night and fell 2 points back again.
These Royals starters are dominating us this series so far lol. Something like 13 innings pitched - 1 ER in two games. Kind of ridiculous seeing how we scored 11 runs as soon as the starter was pulled yesterday. |

Forgot to post this, the other night Tavarez started the game and pitched real well. He got a standing O as he walked back to the dugout and didn't tip his cap. I gotta admit that is gangsta move by him, I thought it was pretty funny

Too bad he has been a terrible pitcher all season, and decided to randomly pitch good as a starter when the Red Sox are all but out of it
Figures the Red Sox would take 2 games from the White Sox now too |

Anibal Sanchez with the first no-hitter in forever. At least the Red Sox have Beckett.

Wow, I seriously don't know what goes through Joe Torre's mind sometimes when it comes to the bullpen. The pen is going to be dead when the playoffs come around.
Here we are with an 8-0 lead against the Royals and the most logical choice for Torre is to use our best available and most overworked bullpen guy in Scott Proctor, even though we have about 6 other relievers that don't pitch. With Mo down for a bit and Villone's arm ready to fall off I guess its Proctor's turn to again be used in every single game. Last edited by Dragon; 09-06-2006 at 10:44 PM. |

If A leads to B and B leads to C, C does not neccessarily lead to A though YOUR Hero.
Therefore, Bucs = Pirates, but Pirates do not equal bucs (couldn't find the sign) I just hate ESPN and it's western Canadian bias. Can we stop hearing about the goddamn Canucks already! |

Yanks need to grab 1st in the AL so they can play Oakland in the 1st round if the standings keep the way they are.
I don't want the Twins. edit: Actually I think 1st plays the wildcard no matter what. And The Twins and the Tigers can't play each other in the 1st round, right? So it looks like the Twins eathier way. Last edited by Loose Cannon; 09-07-2006 at 12:57 PM. |

Who I would be most afraid of in playoffs
1. Minnesota (only if Liriano pitches) 2. New York 3. Oakland 4. Detroit |

The best thing that could happen is if Detroit gets knocked back to the wildcard so we face them first round. We have had no trouble with them at all this season. But it looks like it will be Minnesota, does anyone know the word on Liriano? Has he started throwing and stuff yet?

Radke could be back in the next week or two as well. He was originally expected to be out 2-3 weeks, and if he is physically capable I think he will pitch.

If Ryan Howard gets to 62 HRs, does he go down in history as the first man to pass Maris' record 'drug-free?' Does he get an asterisk?

Is there a reason why Howard is a bona-fide clean player? MLB's apparent crackdown has been a joke, so I don't see why Howard is automatically percieved as the first "clean" player to do it.
Another thing, I just saw a column on ESPN.com that said the Yankees will go far in the playoffs because they have good pitching. It then went on to show statistics with the Yankees team ERA being fourth of the five AL playoff contenders, and made a bunch of other rediculous claims. One being that the Twins can't/won't make the playoffs without Liriano. Umm...that argument really hasn't held up. It also implied that Brad Radke was a burden, ok guy. What would compel you to write that the Yankees pitching gives them an advantage in the AL playoffs? |

Radke's not exactly been Mr Consistency through the years but he's been great for the Twins this season and I sure as hell don't wanna face Santana/Liriano/Radke in the first round

Radke could very well be done for the season, but even if he is, he was one of the top pitchers in the AL for the two or three months that he pitched with the shoulder injury. He was more consistant than Johan in that time. It was just the most rediculous column I've ever read.
