As far as i'm concerned there are currently like 2 or 3 leagues, maybe 4 tops that are worth going to if you're a top top player, UK Premiership and La Liga top it by a mile, then maybe France or Germany, Italy is so mired in corruption right now its not worth the bother.

I think the MLS is in the same boat as our A-League; in terms of big names the best you can hope for is to attract a few older big names wanting to play out their days in a lower quality league. Dwight Yorke playing for Sydney last year being an example of this.

Yeah thats like with Gary Linekar playing in Japan and stuff. I think eventually some big names might start going out there, but Europe will probably always be the epicentre for football

Exactly. I don't believe the Ronaldinho rumor at all because the MLS has a very strict salary cap to prevent stuff like that. David Beckham has said that he would like to finish his career in the MLS, which could be big because he is hands down the most recognized named here (his bending free kick goal made the biggest headlines of any World Cup game in the Minneapolis paper), but if he wants to play in 2010 he is probably going to stay in Europe for a while.

There are a lot of leagues that are above the MLS right now, but I did read somewhere in the World Cup hype that MLS attendance is like the fifth highest in the World. That was really surprising to me, but really, I don't think the MLS is even on par with the English second division (whatever it's called, England League 1 or something?). A ways to go, but a big name could help boost it.

This really has been a good match on both sides of the pitch. The refs have allowed the players to pace the game, but what Zindane did was downright stupid.

I was torn going into the match and throughout, both as to who I wanted to win and who I thought would win. I think what it comes down to is that Barthez really isn't a PK goalie. I mean you look at a guy like Lehmann in there and the kicker is at the disadvantage, but Barthez is small and quick but not an intimidator in a shootout.

It's nice to see Italy win this one, I didn't want to see Brazil again, but it would have been nice to have at least one non-western European team in the final four.
