Suddenly Texas is looking more promising. They've already made the games 7 inning against their opponents when leading. If they do land Zito now that they resigned Padilla, well that's good news for any Ranger fan.

True, if they get Zito there would be a huge power shift in the west. I don't see them being favorites but Very competitive. Especially if hey trade otsuka for an everyday player or a Starter.
Oakland lost Zito and Thomas, their 2 best players. Seattle is in the fucking woods Anaheim needs to put it together. Great team on paper. I think Texas wins 85-90 games and the division. Bounced in the 1st round. |

They'll keep Otsuka around, it would be foolish to trade him and then *hope* Gagne doesn't re injure himself. Like I said, it also means after 7 innings you can't bring in Otsuka and Gagne for the 8th and 9th innings, effectively shutting down the end of the game after 7. (barring injuries)
The Rangers are looking at adding Mark Mulder as well. |

Mulder isn't a great pitcher anymore, but he'd be a good back end of the rotation for Texas. I'm kind of scared of what his numbers will look like in Arlington though.
1) Zito 2) Padilla 3) Millwood 4) Mulder 5) Koronka 8th inning - Otsuka CL - Gagne That would be one of the best pitching staffs in baseball, even pitching at Arlington. |

HOUSTON -- Wasting little time filling the void created by the departure of Andy Pettitte to the New York Yankees on Friday, Astros general manager Tim Purpura announced on Tuesday that the club had acquired right-hander Jason Jennings from Colorado in a five-player swap that brought Jennings and right-hander Miguel Asencio to Houston in exchange for center fielder Willy Taveras and right-handers Taylor Buchholz and Jason Hirsh.
I don't know how good of a deal this is for the Astros. Taveras is kind of underrated. Hirsh was their best pitching prospect, I think, and Buchholz was a top pitching prospect as well. I guess they needed to fill the Pettitte void. |

Weaver and Suppan are both failures in the AL East, that's probably their justification.

Oh, I agree that they'd be an improvement, I'm just trying to provide justification for being so hard over Meche over Suppan and Weaver.

It seems to me the Jays will hope Towers can rebound and that the AAA prospects pan out. Either that or they will go on as Long as they can seeing if they can resign Wells, if they can't, I believe they'll trade him for a top pitching prospect. Rumour is to the Dodgers.

TSN.ca Staff with Globe and Mail files
12/13/2006 10:34:49 AM The Globe and Mail reports that the Toronto Blue Jays have made a formal contract offer to outfielder Vernon Wells. According to another report on Yahoo!, it is a seven year deal worth $126 million US. If signed, the contract would be the sixth-richest in baseball history, behind only Alex Rodriguez ($252 million for 10 years), Derek Jeter ($189 million for 10 years), Manny Ramirez ($160 million for eight years), Todd Helton ($141.5 million for 11 years) and Alfonso Soriano ($136 million, eight years). "It's somewhere in there," Wells told the Globe on Tuesday. "But to be honest, other than that, I don't feel under any obligation to make any more comments about it." The contract would also likely exceed the average annual value of Soriano, who signed with the Cubs last month. "We have made a formal offer," Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi confirmed to the Globe. Wells, 28, is under contract in 2007 for $5.6 million US but will be eligible for free agency after the season. Without a new deal he could leave the Blue Jays for little more than two draft picks as compensation next fall, which has led to speculation the club would try to deal him rather than risk losing him. The Blue Jays' offer would be their largest financial commitment to a player since they gave first baseman Carlos Delgado a $68-million, four-year deal after the 2000 season. "We will not talk about contract negotiations," Paul Godfrey, the team president, said Wednesday. "We're not going to make any comments." Wells batted .303 last year with 32 homers and 106 RBIs while winning his second straight Gold Glove. ----- Pretty huge. Hopefully he takes it. |

I will stab Brian Cashman if this deal goes down:
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review believes Mike Gonzalez could go to the Yankees in a three-team deal with the Braves. Pittsburgh would get Adam LaRoche and Kyle Davies from the Braves. Going to Atlanta would be Melky Cabrera and Scott Proctor from the Yankees and Jose Castillo from the Pirates. The Red Sox and Diamondbacks are also interested in Gonzalez, and the Braves may not have ruled out trading for him for themselves. I wouldn't trade Cabrera or Proctor by themself for Gonzalaz. What the hell? What do we need Gonzalaz for? We have 4 very capable setup guys in Farnsworth, Bruney, Proctor and Britton. Cabrera is our best defensive outfielder and should take over for one of our outfielders one day. Last edited by FakeLaser; 12-13-2006 at 06:17 PM. |

Wow, I knew a deal would get done but that is a pretty huge bargain in this market. 8.7 million/year seems like a steal even though he hasn't pitched a single game yet.
I was really hoping Boras would get his way on the short deal or at least the 15 million a year, but Boston must have known Boras couldn't do much. Matsuzaka wanted to pitch here, the Japanese team wanted their 51 million and Boston wanted Matsuzaka. Hopefully he is a bust now lol |

lol, the plane landed 22 minutes ago (found that site from a bulletin posted by 'SoxSpace' on MySpace) in the town next to mine. MATUSZAKA MANIA I guess Boras was trying to get the Red Sox to sign Chan Ho Park for a reliever role too...ahh I dunno 'bout all that. He had like a 4+ ERA at PetCo |

Not only are the Mariners taking on $12 million of Jose Vidro's $16 million salary for the next two years, they're also going to give him a vesting option for 2009 to make up for him waiving his no-trade clause.
It just keeps getting better. At least the Mariners didn't give up talent when they brought in Carl Everett to DH last season. The trade sending Vidro to Seattle for Chris Snelling and Emiliano Fruto is set to be officially announced on Thursday. --- I don't know anything about the prospects, but what a terrible move by the Mariners. I'm assuming Vidro will start at 1st base or DH because there's no way Jose Lopez isn't playing second base next year. They should just keep Ben Broussard, he's a lot more likely to stay healthy and has a better bat than Vidro at this point. I'm guessing Broussard will be traded now. This means Cristian Guzman is starting for the Nationals again, lol. |

lol @ Guzman's 2005 stats. Probably the worst numbers ever put up by a starter.
.219/.260/.319 with 4 HR, 31 RBI 39 R, 76 K's and 25 BB's in 468 AB. Wow, a .260 OBP. |

Red Sox Rotation looks like this right now;
Schilling Papelbon Beckett Wakefield Matsuzaka Potential line up; Lugo Youkilis Ortiz Manny Drew Lowell Crisp Varitek Pedoria Dunno how have the bullpen is going to shape up, Lester is going to be back so I could see him going long relief/emergency starter, or maybe moving him back to the rotation (if he is ready) and moving Papelbon back to the pen. A lot weighing on some big ifs for the rotation, 2 older pitchers (Schilling and Wakefield), an unkwown (Matsuzaka) and a guy coming off a real disappointing year (Beckett) We'll see what happens

Boston's rotation has the potential to be ridiculous. All of the starters have the potential to be top 1-2 starters (Besides Wakefield obviously). There is a lot of question marks but the potential is there. It depends on if Beckett bounces back, Matsuzaka transitions to the MLB well and if Papelbon can shift back into the rotation no problem. I know he was a starter before, but he has been in the bullpen the past year.
The bullpen is another story. All they have done is take away from it this offseason so far. And the piece they took away was huge in Papelbon. Unless they get a couple quality arms they will have some trouble, everyone knows how bad it was last year. |

I think it'd be a real bad sign for Toronto if he doesn't. I mean its a huge ass contract, if he turns it down I dunno. Sort of shows he thinks that Toronto can't be a contender

The chances of Toronto being a contender without him are really poor. I don't think Halladay and Overbay carry the team alone.

Mariners continue to look retarded:
Mariners signed RHP Miguel Batista, who had been with the Diamondbacks, to a three-year contract. Terms haven't been released, but the deal is worth $24 million-$27 million. Batista had a 4.80 ERA while being used mostly as a starter with the Jays in 2004 and a 4.58 ERA in a hitter's park in the NL last year. Even with Safeco helping him, it seems unlikely that he'll get under 4.50 next year. At least he is durable, even if last year was the first in his career in which he threw 200 innings. It's just an awful lot of money to spend on a fourth starter. Also: The Rays are close to finalizing a three-year deal with import Akinori Iwamura. An option for a fourth year is expected to be included. The two sides have until midnight Friday to make the deal official. |

The only reason Vernon wouldn't take that deal has nothing to do with whether or not he thinks Toronto is a contender, it has to do with him thinking he can get more money as a free agent.
