Video File / Format Question
Okie dokie, so I have a video file on my computer that I uploaded from a digital cam. It's on my computer and is in .AVI format or whatever. I am getting rid of my computer, which won't allow me to save this to a disk.
Therefore, I am trying to send this file as an attachment to my e-mail, so when I hook up my other computer I can download it and burn it to a disk. The problem is that when I try to send it it says it is 114MB, and I cannot send a file that large. What can I do to change the format or file size, etc. to be able to send the footage to myself, as I really don't want to lose it and cannot save anything to any type of disc on this computer. Any help would be fantastico like Julio. ![]() ![]() |

You might try DivShare. It's an online storage service so you could just upload your file and then send yourself an email in the sharing option so whenever you need it again you just go to the link and download it again. http://www.divshare.com/ If you use this I would create an account so you can keep track of it in case you lose your file.
The only way to shrink the file is to either compress it using a program like WinZip, WinRAR, or 7-zip which will save you a little space but probably not enough, or to compress the actual video which will lower the quality and isn't really necessary at this point. Your best bet would be to just upload it to an online storage site, Google "online storage" if you want, and retrieve it when you need. Will probably take a while to upload, as it would if you sent it via email. Some other sites include http://www.localhostr.com/ and http://www.dropboks.com/ |

Why don't you leave the file on the camera and transfer it after you've set up the new computer? Or am I not reading something important here?
Also, what do you mean when you say the computer won't let you copy the file to disk? Like it gives you an error or you don't anything to copy to? |

Upload it to an online storage site if possible, keep in on the camera, or if you want... zip the video file into a bunch of zip files and send via email.
If anything you can try to put it on a zip drive if possible or something like that? |

I can't copy anything to either the A or C drives, as there's a malfunction with all the crap on my computer - that's why I just went and got a new computer for myself. |

I'm pretty sure that you should be able to transfer the video back to the camera. Just connect it to your computer, open the drive in My Computer, and drag the file there.
