I'm not shitting on the man by any means, I've seen him put some decent matches together live myself. Note 'decent', not 'great'. Most Daniels matches tend to consist of one guy hitting his stuff, then the other guy hits his stuff, finish. But this is way too much. Best in the world? Get the fuck out of here, seriously. If he was that good WCW would have signed him a long, long time ago. I'm no stranger to overhyping indy guys myself - personally I think Alex Shelley is the absolute bee's knees, and Matt Sydal with a little more work could legitimately become something very special. But compared to some of the other guys mentioned in this thread it's even more startling. Punk and Joe basically single-handedly saved ROH from dieing, which they basically receive eternal smark credit for, and Meltzer (whether you like his opinion or not it holds tremendous weight in the industry) rated these guys in a 5 * match together which hadn't happened in the US since like 1995, at least IIRC. On top of that Joe had a match that basically far exceeded expectations against Kobashi, who is arguably the best wrestler of all time. If you can hang with Kobashi, you are the real deal, and he did. AJ I've never been particularly sold on, but he has shown he has the quality and most importantly the intangibles to be able to carry a company as champion. I don't believe Daniels measures up to any of them. |
