Batman Returns
I must say, I just watched it for the first time in a long time and I still think this movie is excellent. Of course it's not "true" to the details of the comics, but it's a very good movie IMO.
It's very love it or hate it. Everyone seems to either like it, or completely hate it. I appreciate this movie, and I think that a lot of the naysayers just didn't get the different direction it was taking while staying within the broad spectrum of Batman. |

Yeah, I generally hear more positive than negative comments about Batman Returns. I enjoyed both Burton films but I Michael Keaton never sat right with me as Batman. He is a short man, with a pretty weak chin, and I don't know, just didn't have the dominating presence Batman should have.
DeVito was an excellent Penguin, though - equally, Michelle Pfeiffer made Catwoman fairly credible, if a little foreshadowingly gimmicky. Naitch is right, Batman Forever seems to be the movie where opinion is literally split on the issue. |

Burton's almost never done a disappointing film IMO.
I want to kick him in the balls for Charlie and the Chocolate factory, but Batman and Returns were awesome. Burton did a great job bringing the franchise to life in a fashion that was enjoyable to both comic fans and mainstream movie watchers. My biggest problem is that Keaton made a great Bruce Wayne (As he was intended to be portrayed in this movie), but kind of a lame Batman. Even then it bugged me very little. Batman Begins is by far superior in its depiction both of Bruce Wayne and of Batman, but that doesn't make The 89 movie and returns BAD. |

always loved that line, almost as good as "have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moon light?" |

I love Batman Returns. Except for the end where Batman takes off his mask right in front of Max Schreck.
Errrr... and besides that, everything was great. |

what's with this ongoing hangup among people with superheros taking their mask off in certain situations. So he got cuaght up in a moment he thought was private and took his mask off, Shreck died right after.

I don't know what you guys are on about. Keaton was the absolute best Batman/Wayne. Nobody's come close since, Bale included.

Clooney made Batman look like an idiot. "Never leave home without it" he says as he pulls out a Batman Credit Card. What a load of bollocks. Batman has a hard enough time cracking a smile in the comic books, let alone pulling off cheesy lines like that. The best thing about this film is that Alicia Silverstone is really hot! Oh, and Arnie is in it too.
Val Kilmer was okay, although he didn't have that brooding kinda presence that Batman has. However I though Batman Forever is very well casted, and if you can turn your brain off for two hours it does have it moments. Tommy Lee Jones and Jim Carrey played their characters really well. Batman and Batman Returns are the same for me. I don't think they're brilliant but they are good none-the-less. The bad guys were well casted but Michael Keaton himself just didn't suit well as Batman in my opinion. Batman Begins however I thought was the goods. Liam Neeson (whom I'm a fan of anyway) was awesome as Ras Al Ghul, and that guy from Smallville made a convincing Scarecrow (although I've never really cared much for Scarecrow anyway). Christian Bale, whom I had never heard of before this, was excellent in my opinion, as both Bruce Wayne and Batman. I also found the story to be entertaining. So here is how I would rate the films: 1. Batman Begins 2. Batman 3. Batman Forever 4. Batman Returns 5. Batman & Robin |

You act like Clooney wrote the script. He just played the part. He looked and acted the part when it came to Bruce Wayne, however he wasn't dark and brooding. He didn't have the right look to him for Batman, and he played it the same as he played Bruce Wayne.

I actually enjoyed Batman Forever. It was a well done and well casted film, IMO.
Batman Begins is the best Batman film, though. No doubt in my mind. |

I think there's one thing we'll all agree on:
Joel Schumacher should never be allowed anywhere near a comic based film ever again. |

Clooney is a great actor. He's done several roles in which I particularly enjoyed him. B&R, however, not only was he miscast, but he didn't feel like he fit the part.
Kilmer, I liked, but it was clear that in Forever, they were ALSO going with a different version of Bruce Wayne. While the movie shared continuity (I think), Bruce was more contemplative than brooding. Bale, I first saw in Equilibrium. He did a great job with that, and I had high hopes for him. And he didn't disappoint in my opinion. He played morose Wayne, Playboy Wayne, vindictive Wayne, etc. with a convincing demeanor. I mean, it doesn't hurt that I liked the way he was played up in the movie. Alfred reminding him that people would start asking questions about that reclusive Bruce Wayne, the almost MAcchiavellian way he goes about some things, and a Batman who actually fights smart. These are good things. The supporting cast was some of the best I've ever seen. And Ras A Ghul is a great character (Now that I know more about him). I only hope the next one is as awesome. Because I'd hate to get another B&R after something that good. Begins may be my favorite super hero movie ever. |

Batman Begins is the better adaptation, and truer. Perhaps it's even technically the better movie (if you judge things like you're on the academy).
However, my personal favorite (preference only) is the original 1989 Batman. Maybe it's because it's darker, more noir and has a more fictional exaggerated Gotham. Maybe it's because I prefer the mystique surrounding Batman instead of a straight forward origin story. The music by Danny Elman and Jack Nicholson's performance are amazing as well. And of course I loved the story line, and find a lot of strength in how they had one clear cut antagonist in Batman. There were like 3 semi-antagonists in Begins, which isn't a flaw, I just preffered the Joker storyline. Origin stories are cool to see, but I did enjoy how Batman just was already there and had recently started his thing in Burton's version. |

I remember CLooney saying that he ruined the franchise. Kinda funny. But there were many factors that did it. But I like the guy a lot.

I have to say Batman and Begins are the better 2, with Begins as my favorite.
I loved Jack as the Joker, unless Johnny Depp indeed plays the part of the Joker in the upcoming Batman movie, nobody can ever touch Jack as The Joker. |

"I think the word your looking for is.. ARGHHHHHHHHH!"
But anyway. Yes I do like this movie. Alot of good lines and action, cute killer penguins, and a dog that can catch super duper batarangs. Burton's films were good. Had the humor, the action, the cast, and good stories. I will give some credit to Joel Schumacher that alright with Batman Forever. I thought Val Kilmer was a alright Batman. Clooney is better off stealing stuff as Danny Ocean. Batman & Robin was god awful. Oh, and Sub Zero was kick ass also. |
