There have been so many great William Regal moments that have caused me to mark the fuck out for the Blue Blood. I can't find the exact quote, but there was one moment where he was feuding with someone (I think it may have been Chris Jericho, for some reason), and he said something like "You're obviously not very bright, or else you'd know that the English are one of the most barbaric races in history!" The way he said it just sent shivers down my spine.
Now to go back to that Triple H/William Regal non-feud. That was such a missed opportunity. William Regal's promo before he took on both Triple H and Ric Flair at the same time was amazing. For those who don't remember it, here is a transcript:
"You see, you and me, we know each other quite well, don't we? Let me give these fine people a little history lesson...it was 11 years ago, we were a tag team in WCW. In fact, I was your mentor, wasn't I? Yes, indeed, I was. And let's face facts: some people, people like us, we're just born naughty. That's why we gravitated towards each other. And if you had used and abused anyone other than that poor lad Eugene, I would have applauded your cunning, sir. But for a clever man such as yourself, it was rather foolish of you to have abused that poor disadvantaged boy, because now you have made an enemy out of me. And if you're looking for a fight, well look no bloody further! Because I will gladly go back there, change into my ring attire, and meet you back in that ring and I shall battle you with every ounce of vile and venom that runs through my veins!"
Fucking awesome. Just fucking awesome. Unfortunately, he would be used to job out to Cena, but at least Regal would put on a great show. The guy never half-asses it, and always manages to leave his mark. I hate Triple H's political grip, but I would be quite happy if he used it to get Regal out of hot water for this steroid thing once his suspension is over, and to get Regal a push of some sort. At the very least the man should win the Intercontinental Championship from Jeff Hardy.
This angle involving John Cena should lead to some major character development. At Unforgiven, he should beat Randy Orton so badly that Orton is written off from WWE storylines, after all (he really should serve out that suspension). JR can rant and rave at ringside about how this is not right, and that John Cena is taking things too far. Have Jerry Lawler get involved to try and stop Cena, but have him get taken out, too (just for a week or so, and get JBL in to see how he works on RAW as a colour commentator, or give Tazz another trial). Cena then cuts a promo like a real ass on RAW, saying that everyone is out to get him, and that he is still WWE Champion and whether we like it or not, the greatest wrestler of all-time. Cena says he knows why Orton kicks people in the head now. It feels good to take someone's life into your hands when you are more powerful than them, and crush them. Cena says he is going to start doing that from now on, because he certainly has the power to.
Jonathan Coachman can then come out and tell John Cena that the next time WWE is on PPV is No Mercy, and that the first victim of John Cena's onslaught will be ready to return by that point in time. Coachman informs Cena that William Regal has stepped down as RAW General Manager, and requested a match with John Cena at No Mercy, and it doesn't matter whether or not the WWE Championship is on the line. Coach says he has given Regal his match, and the WWE Championship will be on the line. Regal then returns when his suspension is up, and cuts a promo on John Cena, shooting on his special treatment, and how Regal had to fight on the streets, and Cena knows nothing about fighting, and the only reason he didn't tear Cena apart during their brawl on RAW was because Cena sucker punched him and trapped his arm in his jacket so he was defenseless. Regal then tells Cena that at No Mercy he won't be wearing a jacket, he will be wearing his wrestling attire, because it will be a wrestling match, and he is the better wrestler, and he fully intents to tear John Cena limb from bloody limb.
Cue William Regal doing just that at No Mercy, in a hard fought match with John Cena. It is Cena who wins the match, however, when he gets Regal in the STFU, and although Regal does not tap, he passes out, and Cena is announced the winner. Cena goes to put Regal on the shelf again after the match, but John Cena, Sr. runs out, and asks John why he is doing what he's doing. Cena does his horrible acting, and Cena's father says he can forgive him for what Randy Orton did to him, it wasn't even his son's fault; but he cannot forgive John if he does what he plans to do to William Regal. John Cena just freezes there like a stunned gorilla, apparently considering it, according to JR, but then William Regal tackles him and the two start brawling, with Regal beating the crap out of Cena with some stiff strikes, and then getting possession of the steel chair. Cena's father than cradles him, and protects him, as the smarks boo at Cena hiding behind his dad. Regal then tells Cena that he's not going to do it, because he's more of a man than Cena will ever be.
The feud then continues into Cyber Sunday, where the fans choose the match: Street Fight, John Cena, Sr. as Special Guest Referee, or I Quit Match.
