Lance Storm Shoot Interview Review/Recap

Watched his shoot from RF yesterday and I'm still about 15 minutes from done, but I wanted to review and recap it before I forget what he said.

Lance is a very funny guy. He's got that dry sense of humor and made the shoot very entertaining. He is also very well spoken and a very smart guy when it comes to the wreslting business. He said so many things that I have been feeling about the business over the past couple years and I couldn't agree more. well, here's the recap.

Lance talked about the Thrillseekers with Jericho and how the gimmick up two guys looking for a thrill in life totally wasn't him at all.

-Lance's main gripe and it came up a couple times in different questions was he says today the bookers (or story writers as he calls them cause they are not bookers anymore) have an idea and then pick wrestlers who they think fit the idea. And the worst thing they do is they never change the idea, no matter if the fans are taking it in another direction

-He says Paul Heyman, Jim Cornette and guys like that did the opposite. They took a good wrestler and came up with an idea for him. And what ever way the fans took the storyline is the way Heyman went.

-As an example of that, Lance feuded with Candido in ECW. Lance was suppossed to be the face and Candido the heel. But the fans went the other way and started getting on Lance. So Heyman switched it. Candido was kind of pissed at that, but Heyman was like "that's what they want"

-Says Dawn Marie and Francine had heat with each other and got into a few scuffles

-He loved having Dawn Marie around. She was originally suppossed to be a one time thing, but Lance asked for her to come on "house shows" with him and they stuck.

Said he loved working with Justin. He didn't like Jason very much and thought he didn't add too much.

He was part of the booking team for a while a had an idea that he would of loved to do, but they never used. Basically they were trying to think of a way to gradually get Taz out of the Title picture with Shane. SO Storm suggested he feud with Taz and do an angle where Lance comes out and rags on Taz and says all he does is suplexes and Tazmission. Thats it. And he would show a video package that would show Taz doing suplex/Taz mission over and over again. Then he would challenge a match to Taz where Taz could not use the Tazmission. During the match, Taz flips and chokes Storm out and Storm wins the match. Then they go from there.

Said money was the reason he left ECW as everyone did. He was open with Paul about talking with WCW though.

When he first met with Russo and Bischoff, Russo suggested that Lance could be Eric's Illigitimate son. Lance hated it and hated how Russo and Disco, who was booker, used humor in everything they did. Lance said there was a spot for humor, but not in every segment.

Lance said he loved the locker room in WCW and he knows a lot of people think differently, but he liked being there. Said Nash, Steiner and them were nice to him

Lance tells a funny story of when he got all those titles. He won the US Title and then he was set to take the Hardcore Title from Vito and Vito flipped out. Then when he was booked to take the Crusier from Chavo, Vito went to Chavo and said something like "looks like it's time for your funeral now too" and Chavo just was like "what the hell are you talking about...you know this is a fake business right?"

Lance was really funny here as he thinks it's so ridiculous when guys are arguing about who is he better wrestler/team etc... and using titles won as an argument. He tells a story of Booker and Bubba arguing over who was the best tag team once and doing that. Lance said it's a fake business and it's not like you really won something. He said titles never mattered to him and he would rather get regarded for his wrestling matches.

Lance ripped apart WCW booking at New Blood Rising and said he felt embarrased in his match in front of the Canadian crowd. He said he brought over 50% of the crowd to that PPV as he was very over at that time and they crushed him.

Lance also was mad about one segment on Nitro around the same time when he had all the belts where They had Kevin Nash come out during either a segment or after his match and just destroy him. He said WCW did that just to show everyone that Lance was not a top guy and was just a mid card wrestler.

He said it was a very strange day when Shane, Patterson and Brisco came to WCW and told the boys they were thier new bosses. Lance being the last one out of WCW's last show.

He then mentions being the first one to invade the WWE. He talks about the infamous Invasion angle and how it was terrible.

He tells of the Raw where ECW reunited and said that was one of the best angles he's ever seen. He thought it was awesome. Then he heard they were merging with WCW and he got bummed out. As the ECW guys got ready the the last segment, Storm said to Heyman that merging with WCW was going to kill this thing and Heyman looked at him and said "I know"

Talks about the Anti-American thing and said it was a disaster. He said he likes Jay (Christian), but he and Test complained all the time through that. They complained about Lance getting more mic time and being the unofficial leader of the group. Lance says Christian is a better promo then him, but when it comes to the serious anti-USA promos, that was Lance's area and Jay wasn't as good there.

Lance said finally the WWE just got fed up and disbanded it. He said before they did, Lance pitched an idea to creative to put Jericho with them instead of Regal and call them C-4. They were going to be a Canadian 4 horsemen. But they said no and then conveiently Evolution shows up. Lance says some of the boys (coughHHHHHHHHHH) shot that down.

Lance hated the "Boring Gimmick" because he pushed for it just to be that his promos were boring and not his wrestling, but management screwed it all up.

Lance loved being a trainor and said it feels good that he helped all those guys that came in post Orton/Cena/Benjamin era. Said the best guy down there still hasn't been brought up and that's Matt Cappitelli. He said it's another case of writers not taking good wreslters planning ideas around that wrestler. He really helped M and M and Melina a lot and loved thier work

Lance said he was a fan of everyone down there, except one guy, Muhamed Hassan. He said the guy was full of excuses, showed up late and really didn't care. He said he was the opposite of Matt where the writers had an idea and picked the best guy to fit the idea, no matter who it was.

Talked about his problem with JBL before Mania. Basically Storm had a behind closed doors meeting with the OVW guys and told them that thier are certain guys (JBL, Holly, Billy Gunn) up in WWE who take it the wrong way if you don't shake thier hand, say hi etc...etc....etc... Storm said that Kevin Fertig snitched to the office on what he said and JBL got wind of it. And JBL saw him that weekend and cursed him out for 30 seconds. Storm was just like whatever.

That's where the shoot stopped for me. If I hear anythig else interesting, I'll post tomorrow.

I love Lance Storm. I've always been a fan of his since day one. But he is such an arm chair booker (not that I'm any different). But I would love to see Lance book a promotion and see how well it turns out. I honestly can't be any worse than what is happening right now.

Also, the whole boring gimmick was retarded. It is like the writers went, "Hey, we got this guy named Lance Storm. Works a great match and has a dry sence of humor. But this is wrestling, the fans are idiots and will never ever get dry humor. Lets just say he is boring, better yet lets have Austin say Lance is boring. Then we will have killed his career forever."

Vince then replies, "Lance who, that name sound like a gay cloud or something. Can we some how work in he is a gay cloud then we can have a gimmick making fun of Hogan because he is a spot light hog. I hate Hogan. So how is that anit-hogan gimmick coming along?

Writers: "Vince, we are talking about Lance Storm being boring."

Vince: "Fine whatever. I know lets blow me up in a limo, everyone morons my death for like a month. And then as soon as everyone is done morning my death, I come back and have a midgets as my bastard son!"

Writers: ....What about Hogan?

Vince: What about Hogan? Didn'y I say something about having HHH fuck a maniquin in a cheer leader custome?

Writers: I quit.

And this is why I think I could book better than WWE.

I'm not saying I have all the answers, but if someone's getting a reaction, I would listen and run with it.

It's not just WWE, though.

Media has been telling us what to watch, what to listen to, and even who to vote for. Which is why we've dealt with declining sales, declining ratings, and declining (For the most part), turnout at elections.

You forget about backstage politics and other bullshit. Heyman and Cornette are able to put aside personal feelings and wanting to push someone because they are a friend or because they owe a family member a personal favor or whatever other bullshit is out their. Also, you can't let the audience dictate what story lines you put out their because they don't know what they want. They just know what they like and what they don't like.

Also, remeber all of ECW innovative story lines...wait, what they didn't have any? And lots of times it was nothing but grudge matches and name calling? Lets not kid ourselves. Paul Heyman was never original. He was just able to tell the same story again and again while keeping it entertaining. Plus, under his watch, it was the same guy wrestling each other over and over again till finally they had a match that actaully mattered. And those matches fit convenently in maybe 4 DVDs.

There's a difference between gaging the audience and letting them actually book it.

Honestly, if I were booking, I would look to both crowd reactions and internet reactions, on top of buyrates and ratings (Down to the quarter hours). You can find a corelation between what fans respond to and what they pay for that way. If something's not working, you change it. Or can it.

I'd also never let a smark near the booking team.

And in WCW, he booked to smarks, proving just how stupid an idea it is.

Whereas, the phrase "super nerd smarks" is redundant, and whereas he himself was also a smark, it is therefore unnecessary to disagree with me based upon those grounds.

I really like Lance's honesty. For the most part, I agree with his opinions. I would really love for him, or someone like him, to be the head booker of WWE or TNA.. preferably TNA
