LOL, even my mum has the WWE figured out...
I had my extended family over for dinner tonight, and my little nephew just randomly asked my dad who his favourite wrestler was. My dad is not a big fan of the product, but simply is aware of some of the guys because I used to watch it religiously.
My dad's answer is not really important, but for those curious as to some of the guys who appeal to some casual fans, his answer was Shawn Michaels, but he used to like Eddie Guerrero (he had forgotten his name, though). I also know for a fact he likes Kurt Angle, Big Show and while not a big fan, he does lean towards the pro-Chris Jericho side. He also thinks Ric Flair is too old, and cannot believe him wrestling. Anyway, he then asked my mum the same thing, and she said she didn't have one, and that she's fallen out of touch with it. She used to like Chris Jericho, Edge & Christian, but did not approve of Edge's "Rated-R Superstar" gimmick, and Christian is of course in TNA now. She also liked it when Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit would "actually wrestle." She then said that "they all seem to have characters now." She said that she feels they haven't found a replacement for The Rock or Stone Cold Steve Austin. My nephew then agreed with her, and said that they're trying with John Cena, and she said she had heard people talking about "John Semen/John Ceda/John Seedman" (she didn't have a clue what his name was) at school (she works as a teacher), and that apparently he's very popular, but she thinks that he's not as good as The Rock or Stone Cold Steve Austin because they were probably extentions of their real personalities, but everyone these days is playing a character. Not really any point to this, just thought I'd share with you the ramblings of my family. My nephew is a massive mark. He felt let down when he found out Santino Marella was actually training to be a wrestler, and wasn't actually a fan, but even he feels like John Cena is a watery substitute for Austin and Rock. It also goes to show that even if a prospective mark isn't aware of all the insider terms, or who is actually really good, they can still recognise the weaknesses in the WWE. Pfft |
