Who's using Vista?
Well, as the computer forum is back, let's do some discussion
![]() I've been using vista on and off since Beta 2 at work and on test PCs, and purchased it when I upgraded my PC a couple of Months ago, love it. But I think I'll double my memory when I can afford it. 2gb isn't enough. Anyone else gone to it, or still on XP? badassmofo HALL OF FAME Heyman Inducted 05-08-07 YOUR Hero Inducted 08-08-07 The Naitch Inducted 04-10-07 Pepsi Man Inducted 25-11-07 RIP Funky Fly Inducted 10-12-07 FakeRazor Inducted 14-12-07 DMI Inducted 20-02-08 Vietnamese Crippler Inducted 21-02-08 Weapon X Inducted 20-06-08 Anybody Thrilla Inducted 04-06-11 Kapoutman Inducted 04-06-11 Sixx Inducted 04-06-11 Downunder Inducted 16-06-12 Zelda Inducted 16-06-12 |

I'm still on XP, but I think I'll bump it up to Vista sometime this year (along with a new mobo, processor and whatnot).
Has it gotten any better since release? Are programs getting more and more compatible or are things still a little shakey? |

I've only ever had the final release blue screen on me once, and that was me pissing around with it. But like I said, I really want 4gb of ram. I'm also tempted to use a USB Memory stick for the speedboost function. Which I'll look into when I get back to NZ.
Service Pack 1 is due out soonish, and while it doesn't look to help performance, it should add to security and compatibility. The only Applications I have a problem with is HVCPlus, which I use for TV Decoding, and is pretty old, so I dual boot to Windows XP if I want to run that. |

Got it. Can't stand it. Incompatible with the editing suite I need to use for my uni film work, got my first ever proper virus, fucked me around with installing Football Manager, bunch of shit really that annoys me. I do like the Start button however. That is sexy.

Never going to upgrade.
When I get a new PC, sure, I guess I'll need to get Vista, mainly for DX10+ games. Honestly, if it weren't for DX10 I wouldn't even consider it. If it weren't for a few games I probably wouldn't even bother with Windows at all. In fact, I know I wouldn't. Last edited by Xero; 01-22-2008 at 04:44 PM. |

I got it when it first came out. Wanted Ultimate, but Premium was all they had.

Home Premium is still pretty good, the additions ultimate provides aren't really that important. The only reason I went with Ultimate was so I can buy an upgrade license when the Vista Replacement comes out. A while away, I know, but I like to plan ahead

lol, indeed, but I figured using ultimate would also pay off when they start releasing downloads for it. If they ever do!

I'm going to buy Ultimate because it has the word "ultimate" in it; so, it's gotta be good, right?

Oh definately
![]() I also bought it, cause I can't be arsed running a hacked version I have to babysit every time MS released an update. If you're building a PC and buying Vista try get an OEM copy of the software, it's 1/3 the price and exactly the same ![]() |

I haven't had a problem with ATI, YET.
I would've gone with the nvidia equivalent, but I got this at such a good price it was hard to pass up ![]() |

I had Ultimate pretty much mainly for the looks. Got bored with it and reverted back to XP.
Now I'm running Linux and I boot in XP when I need to (games). I don't really plan on going back to Vista though. Not unless there is some amazing PC game that actually looks better in DX10. |

Home Premium. Got It. Like it. As a computer guy, it has some really great features, and DX 10 makes things look great.

My roommate got it right away and he had all types of problems, I dunno I think he's worked out now though (he is a computer science major so I would hope so)
Personally I'm sticking with XP until I get a new computer I guess. Don't really see the need for it, as I pretty much just use my computer for online |

I would stick with XP even if you get a new computer. Have really yet to see one reason why it would be a better choice than XP.

DS, I think you already nailed the primary reason right now for having Vista, DX10, although there isn't anything that will really take advantage of it right now.

I think the user interface is a hell of alot smarter. As is things like copying to USB devices (which I somehow spend alot of time doing). It's unfortunate so many people have issues with it, then again, I don't play many First Person Shooters, and I think that's where alot of people are having issues.

I'm still running XP, the main reason is I'm not going to change for the sake of it. And the other reason is someone told me Vista and XP are really hard to network, and the PC that runs Media centre connected to my TV is too old and shitty to run Vista.

I got Vista when I got a new comp in the summer (I would assume the cheapest one). Took some getting used to, but I love the interface. Had to buy the new Office to be compatible with it, which sucked. It should be noted that I know balls about computers, which is probably why I got fucked on the price instead of d/ling that shit somewhere.
