The commentary still going after the video feed had been cut should have gotten really bizarre, that would have made the whole thing a lot better...

JR: Triple H has Orton here, he's gonna tap!

King: I think you're ri...wait what is that? What just came out from under the ring? It looks like...

JR: Bah gawd badgers! Are you seeing what I'm seeing? Badgers are crawling out from under the ring!

King: Thats alot of badgers!

JR: Alot of badgers indeed and they are coming into the ring!

King: I've never seen anything like this before!

JR: Bah Gawd King you are right! The badgers are assaulting Triple H and Orton, biting at there heels!

***feed cuts out to Law & Order***

Now THAT would have been a "WTF" moment...

I don't know, I liked it. It was an interesting end to the show.

I think you guys are overreacting saying this is the last straw for some people, it's going to harm ratings, etc. This won't do jack shit to the ratings, because it HAPPENED AT THE END OF THE SHOW. What ratings are we talking about, the teaser for Law & Order? It was unexpected, had an Attitude-ish feel to it (in a way), and was indeed meant to draw heat for Regal.

The match continued for those in attendance anyway.

Gotta admit, I'm not entirely sure what to think of some of the lines of reasoning going on here. I mean, sure, it's "unexpected," but one only needs to look at the final days of WCW to see that unexpected doesn't necessarily translate into good.

I'm also not sure how this draws heat, if the only people deprived were the television viewers. I mean, I guess the fans at home might have been booing, and I'm sure that will be replayed on Raw next week, but that doesn't necessarily translate into a tangible result. I'd say the odds are long against, personally, that this translates into anything meaningful or a particularly increased amount of heat from the live audience.

Back to unexpected. I'm sure Triple H and Randy Orton finishing the match by making out would also be unexpected, but that doesn't make it a good idea or translate into a positive outcome. Russo pulls a lot of unexpected "twists," and look where he is.

In terms of what it was "supposed" to do, I'm not sure the fact that it was "supposed" to piss people off is any better than "It's unexpected," since pissing people off doesn't always translate into ratings. In fact, it's a very tricky thing. I mean, Triple H was supposed to get booed as a heel in the Attitude Era, and he did, and the fact that his spots tended to tank ratings should demonstrate that the fact that it was intended did not make it a good thing when it worked.

In other words, the cliché "be careful what you wish for; you just might get it" comes to mind. The intent to piss people off is more likely to backfire than to serve as a boon.

So honestly, to say it's "supposed" to do it is kind of missing the point entirely.

There was about another 30 seconds or so of commentary with no video feed, and then that dropped out too. They didn't stop the match live though as far as I know...

So, cutting the feed is going to destroy future ratings, but doing so won't garnish future heat for the villian that caused it? Excellent selective theory.

As for unexpected, I really think you need to pick an argument. You're notorious for the "Vince needs to wake up and stop forcing things down our thoats" idea, yet when they do something radical, it's a bad move. Why is it that new things are always so dangerous, while repetition is detrimental? It seems like sometimes, you have to make decisions, and see what the fuck happens. This prejudice against the company is simply astonishing. Yes, some things have an intended outcome, and yes, some things don't work the way you think they should. But "supposed to" doesn't mean "will". That's why they say "supposed to". But I'm sure all of us short-busers thank you for spelling it out.

Oh, and while you're busy condescending, I've got a cliche of my own that seems to fit the bill again, especially in your case: Watch before you bitch.

It's not a selective theory, since "heat" and "I'm sick of this shit" are not the same thing. Nor are they necessarily mutually exclusive, but since you're formulating my argument for me, I figured I'd point out the flaw in your "logic." And believe me, I use the term loosely.

As for "unexpected," No, there is a problem with the reasoning behind that. So I brought it up. I'm not looking for an argument, but I sure did find a discrepancy between the reasoning and reality. Again, you try and paint me as though two points are mutually exclusive, which only works if you rigidly and dishonestly frame them. Believe it or not, "Stop forcing things down our throats" does not automatically mean that every possible alternative is good. That's not logic. That's a dishonest statement framed to create an argument (Hello thar, iruny!).

Surely what happened has created interest. Whether people like it or not, it was unexpected, it was done by someone unexpected and is totally out of context to the formulaic shit we've had shoved down our throats for years now. People are talking about it. Had this not happened, we'd have the usual threads about outpopping, Jericho sucking and whatever bandwagon someone wants to start this week. It's freshened up this board, for me anyway.

The fact that they've loosely copied the idea in their other two shows seems to indicate that they liked it, and as long as they don't do this every week, it'll make me watch with a bit more interest.

Let's be honest, I'm sure most people were about to switch over anyway.

Some of my friends at work who can generously be called "casual" fans (in that I had no idea they had ever watched a show in their lives) were talking about the ending to RAW on Tuesday. So it's generating some interest. Guess we just have to wait and see whether that's a good thing or not.
