It's already been stated that they put it in their as a joke. (Nothing to do with the company/producer/anyone like that either, as it was one of the background designers idea of a joke.)

What, exactly, did they do to people? Nothing, really. If you were dumb enough to read into it, it's your own fault, nobody else's. Aside from that, this seems to be more attributed to your lack of a meaningful thought process than any malicious or deceptive intent from anyone involved.
