One Night Stand *Spoilers*

So here is the current card:

Last Man Standing Match for the WWE Championship
Triple H vs. Randy Orton

TLC Match for the vacant World Heavyweight Championship: If The Undertaker loses, he is fired
The Undertaker vs. Edge

Singapore Cane #1 Contender's Match for the ECW Championship
Tommy Dreamer vs. Big Show vs. John Morrison vs. CM Punk vs. Chavo Guerrero

First Blood Match
John Cena vs. JBL

Stretcher Match
Shawn Michaels vs. Batista

Falls Count Anywhere Match
Jeff Hardy vs. Umaga

It technically looks good, and it probably will be, but half those gimmicks are completely redundant. HBK and Batista don't need the Stretcher Match gimmick. A match that much end in pinfall or submission would be enough. The Singapore Cane stipulation in the #1 Contender's Match seems silly. I'd rather just a plain elimination or sudden death pinfall/submission match. Bring canes into it via the relaxed rules of the entire PPV. I don't see why JBL would choose First Blood, when Texas Bullrope is his specialty.

On the other hand, a lot of the stipulations make sense. The double countout ending in Jeff Hardy and Umaga's RAW match set up Falls Count Anywhere perfectly. Randy Orton choosing Last Man Standing also makes perfect sense. The same goes for Vickie Guerrero letting Edge get Taker in a TLC Match.

There is yet to be anything that catches my eye about the PPV, though, except the ECW Title Match, just because it's something different.

What is everyone thinking about the card?

Pfft

Why in the hell is Cena and JBL having a first blood. Like you said, it should be a bullrope match.

Jeff and Umanga actually somewhat interests me.

and the #1 Contenders match would be good if it was a No Holds Barred Elimination Match.

Trips vs. Orton is redundant. I bet it will be entertaining, but it seems like management could have put together a simpler and more sensical string of matches for the Raw main event than this set.

The TLC match, unless I'm way out of the loop going to be a lock for the Undertaker. Which is sad, since it's a TLC match and the last one I remember is Edge losing to Cena. I'm not even going to mention the whole "It's a Ladder match" message.

The ECW match confuses the shit out of me, but I haven't been watching ECW. It seems like it was a match that was brought together by Tommy Dreamer, but I doubt that. Either way, Punk probably won't win it since he has a title shot. It'll probably be either Morrison or Big Show.

Cena vs. JBL could be a fun streetfight if they both bring their game faces.

A stretcher match seems a little off since neither are really vicious wrestlers. But it's still Batista and HBK and it'll get a lot of time, so it should be quality.

Hardy vs. Umaga part 7 makes sense, but again has been done to death.

If everyone tries then it'll be entertaining, but nothing spectacular. And nothing is really interesting. Kane is on the poster, so I wouldn't doubt he gets a match too.

Looking at the match, I assumed it was a collection of all former ECW Champions on the roster being put into a match against each other. I may be wrong on that, and it may have been a randomly thrown together match, but that would explain the random main event assertions of some of the guys, and The Miz not being included.

I'd like to see Kane vs. Chris Jericho in a Champion vs. Champion Match, just because I can't think of something for either guy to do. While HBK and Batista were pre-occupied with each other, I figured Chris Jericho could defend the IC Title against Jeff Hardy, in a No DQ Match that featured Jeff doing something stupid off a ladder, missing, and Jericho getting the win. But yeah, that seems out of the question now.

Umaga should go over Jeff Hardy. I get that Jeff can still be a star, but you can't immediately push guys that fuck up like he did. Umaga has been playing ball, and should be made to look good against Hardy, and defeat him here. Jeff will go over, however, as Umaga is probably going to change brands, and Jeff is still yet to lose since returning.

The Stretcher Match should go to Batista, who targets the leg, and tries to actually injure it. HBK has gotten enough wins recently to take a loss to Dave here. I'm hoping for lots of psychology in this match. The only way I'd be happy with an HBK win, is if someone inserts themselves into this feud (like MVP, or even Jericho playing a suspiciously supportive ally of HBK), and helps HBK strap Batista in, and wheel him out.

In my perfect world, the First Blood Match would be used to help evolve the John Cena character. Either he wins, and bloodies JBL way more than he needs to, and looks like a beast, or he loses and gets pissed off at the fans because they cheered his debasement. This should move into darker edges for the Cena character, but it won't.

As I said, the Singapore Cane Match should be Extreme Elimination Rules, but ah well. Big Show should get a push, he really should, but Kane vs. Big Show? It just doesn't seem right. Tommy Dreamer should be putting talent over, and CM Punk already holds a shot, and is another face. It's Chavo or Morrison's match, I think. Kane vs. Morrison is being set up well, and Morrison is getting a nice little push, it seems. Plus it's the fresher match. Morrison should pin Dreamer.

Chavo can redeem himself by making sure The Undertaker doesn't win the World Heavyweight Title, and causing Taker to move to RAW, to freshen up the rosters.

The Last Man Standing Match should feature Triple H taking everything Randy Orton throws at him: an RKO on the table, a concussion kick, and RKO on steel chairs; and keep coming back for more. Eventually, let him execute Randy Orton with some sick sledgehammer shots, and hold himself up with the ropes, while both men are covered in blood, to retain the WWE Championship. Then it'd be a mark-out moment for Punk to cash in his briefcase, but it also might be jumping the gun with things.

Besides the ECW match, these are all repeats of the last 2 PPVs but with gimmicks. This'll be another one I torrent and skip through.

What is the point of 3 match series, when one guy loses all 3, especially when they are all for a title? I understand 2 matches. But after losing twice, that should be it.

Yeah, it's poorly poorly developed because of the lack of time. Which is a shame, since they could have just dropped One Night Stand by this point. They should have for a couple of brand pay-per-views to get some stuff going correctly.

This is what has pissed me off about the last couple PPVs! They seem to be pushing certain guys on TV but never follow it through to a PPV.

They made a big deal of Hardy beating MVP for the US Title and yet I think he's still to defend it on PPV.

Kennedy was given a big return fued with Regal (who has also been pushed heavily) yet they didn't book either man in a match at Judgment Day.

Same goes for the Raw Tag division. They seem to be dedicating a fair amount of TV time to tag team wrestling yet they can't even throw together a Fatal Fourway Tag Team match or something.

Seems to me that in repeating the last PPV / leaving a lot of talent of the card WWE are doing themselves (or moreso the fans) a great disservice.

My original post was a novel? Or are you just protesting this thread because there is a "novel" in it? If that's the case, I'm going to start providing my thoughts in the threads you start.

As for the lack of Mr. Kennedy, Matt Hardy, MVP, etc. from the PPV card: It really is a sad thing. That's just the nature of the beast, though. The WWE has to fit three World Title Matches (or so) on every PPV, and that chews up almost half of it. Then you have the secondary feuds, and your card maybe has room for one mid-card match (in this case, Jeff Hardy vs. Umaga). You also have main eventers sitting out every PPV (Batista for Judgment Day, and it seems Kane for One Night Stand).

On the plus side, the WWE has actually been putting on solid PPVs from a match perspective, if not from a storyline perspective (if you believe reports...I know I haven't been ordering them). I think it would best suit the WWE to go back to brand exclusive PPVs, though, with RAW producing their own, and SmackDown!/ECW being linked (like their shows are). If a card is looking weak, and buys are expected to be low, boost it with a RAW special attraction match. Hell, even put a WWE Championship match before the ECW and World Heavyweight Title matches (that way the SmackDown!/ECW titles look better than they currently would).
