If they didnt give up Melky for Johan, they aint giving him up for WASHBURN. I swear to god if they do I quit as a fan. I will murder someone. He is my single favorite Yankee right now.

With Matsui and Posada (most likely) out for the rest of the year it will probably be -

LF - Nady
CF - Melky
RF - Abreu
DH - Damon

I'd say Nady, Damon and Abreu switch in and out of the DH spot all year. Damon will probably be the DH for a while with him just coming back from the injury not too long ago. The best defensive OF would probably be Damon-Melky-Nady though. Abreu is kind of terrible in the field.

I honestly don't even want Washburn. And if they give up a Melky or Gardner type player to get him then Cashman is just terrible. Washburn has pretty identical stats to Rasner this year (ERA, WHIP). He's not that much of an upgrade.

The fact that the Yanks would be stuck with him next year is what really makes me not want him. They already have a ton of options for starting pitching next year.

Wang, Joba, Hughes, Kennedy. Pettitte and Mussina both have their contracts up but I expect at least one to be back.

And thats if they don't go after a Sabathia or Sheets or something (which I expect them to do).

I'm hoping the Jays convince Burnett (believe it or not) to not opt out and that the Jays go after CC or Sheets. Not to mention going after a big bat. I truly believe, barring injuries, the Jays are *that* close to being WS contenders.

Great game tonight despite the loss...fucking hell though, awful job by the Mets in RISP in extras. Just pisses me off that fucking Pujols had to be the one to win it...the one guy you know you can't fuck up with.

Hopefully Santana can get a win tomorrow.

I think they Jays are a much better team than they appear.

I dont think they could ever afford a Halladay/Sheets/Burnett top 3 though. That would be scary though, albeit coming with injury risk.

The Jays really should make a run for Adam Dunn, especially if they lose Rios.(Is he locked up yet, I keep thinking he could be a FA)

They would be a better contender then, but they still have too many guys that are injury plagued, but somehow, IF they could get everyone back full strength, then yeah, I think they could push for a Widcard.

I dont know what happened, but I used to hate Giambi, I was so pissed when they signed him, but he has slowly grown on me, and I love him now. I hope they keep him around for a few more years.

He is underrated right now. He doesnt put up his old MVP numbers, and his Average sucks, but he has good power still, is a hard out, and gets on base.

Yeah Delgado has been beasting it right now...insane.

Even in defeat, I'm really encouraged. The Mets overcame a 4 run deficit AND a 3 run deficit in the same game. A month ago, the game would have been over after going down 4 runs. Feels like some of the 2006 magic is back.

Rios is like a young Abreu. 5 Tools. Great player, good thing they locked him up.

Havent seen many Toronto games this year. Didnt know they were a few games over 500.

If they were in any other division, they would be in 1st.

lol wow the Braves are terrible.

It amazes me how bent out of shape the scoreboard makes some people. I always check the Phillies/Marlins' scores but it's wayyyyy too early to put any stock into it. I prolly won't start actually worrying about the scoreboard for at least another month.

Manny says "if the red sox think they'll be better without manny rameriez then they should trade me and i'll approve it" (yes, he talked about himself in 3rd person).

ESPN is reporting the sox have talked to a few teams and offered to pay his salary this year but they want top prospect in return, if he stays the season Manny has said he'll play and not sit out.

If the sox don't p/u the option at years end they get 2 draft picks one being a first rounder and an advantage they have is a lot of team pass on some top prospects because the cost to sign them, where the sox are willing to pay the money to a top "unproven"...

He does this almost every season around this time. I'm not sure if the media provokes Manny into making these statements or if he just acts like this before the trade deadline, either way, I have trouble taking it seriously. I respect Manny enough to turn a blind eye to his bold statements. It does get old, but Manny has done too much for the team for me to want to see him traded.

From what I heard, in 2006 Manny was asking to be traded because he was caught sleeping with Edgar Renteria's wife. Maybe this time he's banging Pedroia's wife.

I don't really care to be honest, but knowing how everything works with the Red Sox it'll just get blown up by everyone. Whatever though as long as he keeps hitting and driving in runs he can say whatever the fuck he wants. He's not a good PR guy, that's pretty obvious - he is just saying what he is feeling, I am sure there are plenty of other players who felt the same in similar situations but where just smart enough to keep their mouths shut.

I had read that the Phillies would be the team most likely to get Manny in a trade because he has a connection with Charlie Manuel.

It'd be scary facing the Phillies at the plate but seeing Manny and Pat Burrell in the same outfield would be a joke defensively.

manny's old trade request wasn't reterias wife, but he had a mistress who turned into a stalker and his wife flipped out.

the player/wife thing was Cabreara and Foulke's wife (explaining why they let OC go after the WS win)

the truth is, every single season Manny at some point takes "time off" and it's usually not at the best time, wether it's a fake injury or a relative dies again, or whatever but the flip side is he's going to go down as probably a one of the top hitters in baseball and he shows up in the playoffs and kills the ball.

the issue isn't what he says, the issue is things like he shows up for the NY game is in the lineup and tells the manager "sorry, my (knee?) has been hurting all week, and I'm not playing" and you can tell Francona is sick of his stuff because Francona keeps everything in house, but he put this one out "I had him in the lineup, said his knee hurt all week, was the first me and the training staff had heard of this, no idea why he didn't tell us sooner so we could give him treatment and maybe a game off so we'd have him for this big series with the yankees"....

This time the thought is Manny wants to piss them off because he's afraid they might pickup his 20mil option and he thinks he can either get more per year or get less per year but a longer deal.


So yeah, I really don't care if he takes a few games off during the year (or disapears into the monster during the game) as long as he shows up in the playoffs.

and as much as Manny isn't the best fielder, he has a cannon of an arm and is one of the few guys left in the majors that can go outfield to home w/o a bounce and he also knows that wall... having a new LF for the rest of the season and post season that doesn't know that wall well would worry me a bit.

And as for his comments, if you hear the entire thing it really isn't bad as it sounds. Manny basically said if the Red Sox found a deal that make the Red Sox better and also work out for him then he would be willing to waive his no trade clause. The interview is actually pretty hilarious if you hear the whole thing.
