According to "Words and Phrase Origins: 3rd Edition" the term paydirt has the following origin...

"One authority traces the expression to the Chinese pei (to give) and used by Chinese miners in California, pay dirt thus meaning 'dirt that gives gold.' However, it more likley derives from the fact that it is dirt containing enough gold dust to pay for working it. The expression is first recorded in 1856."

Thus having someone who's nickname is "The Gold Standard" and his finisher being called "paydirt" is actually quite clever and not really "what the fuck" worthy.

First let me say, for going to the trouble of looking that up.

However, my "What the fuck" was not in regards to the origin of the word. If you have any sense of American history, you know what "paydirt" means. It just happens to be a really stupid name for a wrestling move. That's why I say "what the fuck".

Alright fair enough, I was just thinking it might be a phrase you're not familiar with. I actually like the name for that move but you idea of "The Title Shot" is actually pretty good as well.
