DVD burner questions

OK, I am thinking of buying one. But first...

- I'd have the ability to basically make copies of DVDs, right? Because I work at a video store, and you know... I'd never have to buy a DVD again.

- How much do they go for?

- Is there any free software to copy DVDs or waht? What is the process? Like how long does it take and shit.

HOOK ME UP.

You can make copies of DVDs. You get programs like DVD X Copy or like it and it makes a DVD on your harddrive which you burn on to the DVD. They can range pretty high as they are relatively new to the basic consumer market. You can purchase them online from sites like Newegg.com or Pricegrabber.com and get a better price then retail stores and little, if any, shipping charge. Some burners come with DVD software or you can purchase/download them. I don't believe they are that expensive. They are probably going to hit you somewhere between $150-200 for a decent one.

You could have all the DVDs you wanted but the blank DVD disks are still quite expensive. They aren't like CD-Rs where you can get 100 for pretty much free.

Nero doesnt work for DVD movies ya goose, copyright protections kicks in.

I use DVD Shrink and if the movie and all the special features takes up so much room that the movie has to be compressed to fit it all in, I just reauthor the disc and grab the movie and the 5.1 dolby and dts tracks and burn it that way. Works perfect everytime.

You just dont get the special features, menus and so on, but I don't watch any anyhow unless it's really worth it.

What do you mean by re-author the disc and all that shit you just said?

Or will I know when I actually use the program?

Yeah youll see that you can either copy the whole original dvd, and it will compress it all to fit on a one sided 4.7gb blank dvd or you can choose the "Re-Author" tab and drag and drop the parts of the dvd that you want, like the main movie.

It's pretty simple to use, download it and have a look, its self explanatory.

See the post i did for Morcheba's question, but DVD X-Copy Platinum is an easy interface program for copying movie DVDs that you would rent from the video store. Its expensive (near 200 dollars) but while you're copying DVDs you might as well go find it on some P2P for free as well.
