Removing Vista
I hate it
It came on a new laptop I've tried to use my XP disc as a boot, it starts up, but then it comes up with a message that windows can't define the drives. Apparently I've read that it might be because it's a sata drive, although I can't confirm that. Basically I just want XP on the machine, but it seems near impossible, any suggestions? THE OPTIMISTS! You need to go into the BIOS and change the hard drive compatability type, then you will be able to install XP.

Ah ha
Right then, I'll give that a go later, thanks. I've also found a way to create an XP disc with sata drivers included on it, si I might look more into that if this way doesn't work |

Yeah it has to do with the XP disc, which doesn't have any support for SATA drives unless you get or make a custom image. So that should work if it has the driver you need on there.

Fuck sudo.
Maybe he should just wipe it completely and recompile from source. |

Oh my god. Linux humor. I feel like...a part of something?
-edit- That makes me sound pathetic, but oh well. Not running any distros ATM though ![]() Last edited by Boomer; 09-14-2008 at 12:39 AM. |

Good to hear. It sounded exactly like a problem I had, but BC hit the nail on the head.

I was worried for a while, because I was reading about some people who couldn't change the bios and there was a 30 step plan on making a new XP disc that can read sata drives, that seemed complicated

Yeah I always had to have a floppy on file that had the SATA drivers for my old motherboard...it was mad annoying. Glad you didn't have to go through much trouble.
