Pretty much. As a fan of almost every genre they're trying to fuse together, I've got to say I was massively let down by the game. It's a dungeon crawler, but a clunky one. It tries to add in gun-fu shit like Devil May Cry or similar, but the lock on is terrible, and with a shitty camera view, you often find yourself examining the scenery as dozens of enemies are charging you. Since we're talking gun play and sword play, the transition between the two should be smooth, but it's not. Like both the guns and the melee weapons themselves. Melee action is slow, and you pause at the end of virtually every attack, as though you're waiting for an FMV "death" scene. I like Hack and Slash and I like Dungeon Crawlers to an extent, but I am readily bored by the gameplay. The graphics are decent, if dated, and you have glitches that shouldn't exist in any game this side of 2000.
If you're hard pressed for a dungeon crawler and don't mind that it's a sub-par one, then you may still want it. You level up fast, get loot every three seconds, and there's no penalty for dying except the pain of watching the death sequence every time. |
