![]() Normally, William Regal is one of WWE's most smug and haughty Superstars. A distinguished Englishman, Regal finds most others crass and downright unworthy of his time. While presenting himself as a dignified man away from the ring, Regal is a sadistic mat wrestler inside the squared circle, taking great pleasure in torturing his adversaries with stiff strikes and brutal submission holds. Learning the ropes as a young teenager, the native of Blackpool, England traveled across the United Kingdom wrestling as part of carnivals. Facing off against challengers from the carnival circuit as well as from the crowd, Regal quickly earned a reputation as a lethal opponent, with fists of iron and dozens of different holds to render his adversaries helpless. Always interested in sharpening his tools as a wrestler, Regal traveled across the world, winning several championships in Europe, the Middle East and Japan before landing in WCW in 1993. There, Regal held the WCW Television Championship on four occasions; he also nearly won the WCW Tag Team Championship on several occasions with Bobby Eaton and Squire David Taylor, and also had a memorable rivalry with Finlay that saw the Irish brawler break Regal's nose during a match in 1996. Regal came to WWE for a short time in 1998, but headed back to WCW shortly thereafter. Regal finally hit it big when he returned to WWE in 2000. Less than a month after his return, Regal defeated Al Snow for the European Championship that October. In April 2001, he would defeat Snow again to earn a different title: WWE Commissioner. Regal earned several chances at the Intercontinental Championship that summer; he was unsuccessful, but after enlisting Tajiri as his assistant, Regal became a key figure in WWE's battle with the ECW/WCW Alliance. The Englishman also used his class and wit to determine the week-to-week function of the entire Monday night roster as the General Manager of the Raw brand, keeping in line "pillicks" and competitors alike. Arguably his crowning achievement, however, was becoming really regal by winning the 2008 WWE King of the Ring Tournament. Ultimately, his misuse of authority - blackening arenas and cutting microphone feeds - came to an end when Mr. Kennedy defeated Regal in a Loser Gets Fired Match on the May 19 edition of Raw. But that wouldn't be the last of the cunning Englishman, who soon resurfaced on Monday nights, seeking competition as sports-entertainment's hottest "free agent."Source: WWE.com SIGNATURE MOVES Regal Stretch Double Knee Attack FINISHERS Knee Trembler Power of the Punch ABILITIES Dirty Pin Hammer Throw Durability Submission |

WWE SVR 09: Highlight Reel Announced
Create, edit, and share your best in-ring moments with this year's game. by Greg Miller October 13, 2008 - There's a buzzword in the videogame world right now; it's community. True, games have always had dedicated audiences that were linked together by message boards, tin cans on string, etc., but now the merging of games and online functions is creating all sorts of ways for fans to get together and go nuts about their favs. WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 is no exception. In addition to the usual online matches, SVR 09 is tossing in Highlight Reel, an option where you can record parts of your matches, save them, edit them together, and then upload the file for the world to see. OMFG. The feature seems like it'll be easy enough to use. Players will do something cool in their matches; pause the game; and have the option to watch the last 30 seconds of gameplay while changing camera angles, manually moving the point of view, and fast forwarding and rewinding at will. If you dig a 30-second spot, you can save the clip and continue the match -- saving other replays whenever you feel like it. When the match is over, you can jump into the Highlight Reel option and get to work on your masterpiece. Once you're in the editing tool, you're going to have a handful of options at your fingertips. You can toss in multiple clips, put transitions between them, add effects such as slow motion and filters, and pipe in sounds that include music from your system's playlist. There will be editable graphics and logos, the ability to change camera angles here as well, and more. When it's all said and done, you can create a custom, virtual DVD Cover with different backgrounds, Superstar photos, graphics, and custom text. You can even create your own screenshots -- complete with graphics, filters and more -- in the editing tool. ![]() You'll be able to save 20 of these movies, and yes, your created Superstars and finishers will be supported in this mode. When you think you've got squared-circle gold, you can upload your videos and/or screens and hop on the SVR server to download what the other rabid WWE fans have made. |

Next year, they need to incorporate that mode into a Create-A-Tron.
But, seriously, I'm REALLY excited about this game. |

It'll be cool to see who the hidden characters are.
Also going by the Highlight Reel screen, we'll possibly be getting the Troops Tribute arena this year |

In this interview Taku Chihaya, creative director on WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2009, we address the question of features in this edition.
"We've had a lot of feedback from players about the latest version of Smackdown vs. Raw for Wii. All players agreed that the game was really easy to learn, but it was too oriented towards the general public, in other words, it lacked depth. We gathered the team to discuss. We agreed that the side accessible to all was a good, but that it was imperative that we make the game more fun and more exciting. In the previous version of Smackdown, we had only one gauge on the screen, because we thought it would make life easier for players. But suddenly, as we have gathered all the information in a single gauge, it made the reading a bit complicated. That is why we have this year added a gauge of Momentum. As you can see just now, we have developed for the Wii entries wrestler interactive. You can reproduce the poses of your favorite wrestler. But perhaps the morbid shyness of the Japanese players to prevent large movements in front of the screen. I think of all those who spend their time to work seriously to their computer and I see enough bad gestures with the Wiimote and Nunchuk. I will now talk about the biggest novelty of this Smackdown 2009. From my earliest age, I dreamed of designing the final movement of a wrestler. To create it as simply as if you catch one of your friends to make a wrestling madness. With our editor, you can design your web end easily. I heard about the game Midway TNA Impact. And I would play as soon as possible. It's been a long time that I have not played a game of catch which I have not worked myself. I am a true fan of wrestling games! With this new game, I can play another title than that I develop. We thought of calling for every day mode Bra & Panties, "but it will be in the next year. We benefit from an engine offering better graphics. I apologize because we do not advise me a fan of the "Bra & Panties" was coming." translated from Jeux Video In the video on that page, even the neckless from Create-A-Superstar mode moves. |

Highlight Reel looks good.
You know, other than the huge cop-out that is Career Mode, they look like they're trying really hard this year. Did 08 not do as well as expected or something? |

No I don't think 08 was well recieved. I definately think while it was still fun, it was definately the biggest disappointment in the series so far.
As for career mode, I have a feeling that its not going to be such a cop out after all, what with all the alternate twists and outcomes etc, it sounds like it'll have more playability and will be more fun than people are giving it credit for |

08 was buggy, especially the story mode. It was also the first game where you couldn't use the majority of the wrestlers in story mode. At least now, the stories are character specific. Also, the styles weren't very balanced. Otherwise, it was just lackluster overall as far as gameplay updates.

Oh no, I know 08 was terrible, but it usually takes a kick in the sales figures to make devs put effort in for a yearly series

Damn, I forgot about that. I hated it.
In the middle of a feud with Triple H. Beat him in a match one week. The begining of next weeks show, shake his hand in the hallway. During the same show, cut a promo on him and beat him with a chair. |

The hand shaking/walking into the divas locker room (all that stuff with the opening commentary) was supposed to be non kayfabe or some bullshit that I read the devs say. That was like your wrestler (the person, not the character) turning up for the show. Terrible really.

I think thats dumb for sure. Either pick kayfabe or non kayfabe(not neccisarily the game, but the mode itself definately) and stick with it.
Although it may be stupid, but no where near as stupid as TNA's 'Jarrett and LAX kidnap your partner and threaten to kill him'. I wonder at what point the devs realised their story was extremely simaler to Def Jam FFNY and Icon... |

I only recently realised just how bad 08 was.
I haven't completed the 24/7 mode playing as a wrestler and haven't even touched it as a GM. I have half created one character. I have only unlocked a couple of locked wrestlers. Usually I play the game to death...last years made me feel like death was the better option. |

I agree XL. I usually play the game to death also, but 08 was only reserved for multiplayer for the last 6 months. And a few weeks ago I sold it on ebay for £15 in preparation for the new one.
TBH between that and TNA, I've sold a few old games to afford this in 3 weeks and Spiderman WoS next week. |
