Kung Fu Naki defeated him with a Crane kick, albeit in tag team competition. This thread can be a two-pronged discussion:

1. How long do you think MVP will be on this losing streak gimmick, and will it do any serious damage to his character?

2. Did it really take the WWE this many years to come up with "Kung Fu Naki?" Will this lead anywhere good for the performer behind the character?

I don't understand what they're doing with MVP. He could've been a main event player by now or at least a solid upper midcarder. Instead he's treated like a bitch every week.

They seem to be playing up the the fact that he needs one more win to get bonus from his contract. Hopefully something interesting will come out of it.

I don't think it will do serious damage to MVP. His character is basically a cocky NFL player like T.O. and how often does T.O. go out and have a string of dropped balls in a game or even games and then he goes out and is at the top of his game when he snaps out of it? Seems like they are just buying some time before they push him.

This isn't a de-push, this is one of the weird situations where he's actually getting pushed by losing.

This could go on for a while, but at the same time, it's all about that 1 win for his bonus, this could create some good TV with some real desperation tactics from MVP and always just losing out on the win

He was going to move up the roster because Kennedy was going to fill his slot in the midcard. Once Kennedy gets back on his feet, MVP will most likely move up.

Well, we know MVP gave a hard time to one of the piss-watchers, which has earned him a lot of heat backstage, for some reason. I mean, come on, MVP may have been a bit of a jerk to the guy, but they're just words. It's not like MVP accidentally flicked it up in his direction mid-stream.

I'm not a big fan of the pushing through losing thing. Not with MVP, anyway. He's losing [I]too[/I much for my tastes. And far too consistently, too. It's also looking like a lack of his abilties, and not so much a bad streak of luck. I'm feeling that this is actually punishment for MVP, and while it won't last forever (obviously), I think it may have a negative effect on how he is perceived by fans.

Also, what is this bonus going to achieve? He comes out and says "Hey, look guys, I am richer because I won one match." Where's that going to go? He's already rich in storyline terms. I think the journey is the point here, and not the destination.

Personally, I'm thinking a face turn for MVP would freshen him up a great deal. I actually called his involvement in CM Punk's stuff with Ted DiBiase & Cody Rhodes at No Mercy (although I got the specifics wrong -- I thought MVP might hold a VIP Lounge with CM Punk as a guest). It would have been nice to follow that up with a move to RAW and somewhat of a face turn for MVP. If not a complete move to RAW, he very easily could have explained that he has such a good agent that he can ensure that he makes some RAW appearances to teach these young guys a lesson.

But anyway, I hope MVP is fine after this, but I'm thinking the "climax" to this losing streak stuff is simply going to be MVP getting a win against a jobber, celebrating the following week with some streamers and confetti, before some bigger face comes out and calls MVP out for making a big deal over one measly win, setting up a program between the two. Then we'll be exactly where we were with MVP...well, where we've always been with MVP: Upper mid-card heel.

On to Kung Fu Naki:

I like that the WWE are doing something with him. I like that by simply implying he has gone and gotten martial arts training, he has rounded out his game enough to be a player in the WWE. What I do not like is, again, that it took them so fucking long to work out that a) Funaki is talented, and b) He is Asian and has a name that could be connected in pun-form to "kung fu," which they could inaccurately link with images of the Japanese and gi's. It's a light-hearted gimmick, though, which is a field Funaki can own.

Another position of this is it gets Funaki away from his old image. Look, aestetics in wrestling are often understated. Not so much size and muscle definition, but things like the attire a guy wears, and his entrance. Funaki, for the longest time, has had the same theme music, and has worn the same colour scheme: blue and white. It was refreshing just to see Funaki with red wristbands. It may not seem like much, but by losing the "SmackDown!" tights, and the same old colour patterns and theme music, the image Funaki puts in the minds of fans can itself change more easily over time.

And hey, a push is a push. He should start using the Superkick as a finisher again, though. He used it briefly during his run as Cruiserweight Champion, in what I assume is homage to Shawn Michaels (he's apparently a big HBK fan, going as far as to move to San Antonio, Texas). The Sweet Chin Ongaku making its return with the martial artist gimmick could work out really well.

I am a really big fan of MVP. Always have been probably always will be. I always watch him whenever I am home on Friday's. I work at a movie theater so I can't watch Smackdown as much as I used too. But I always tune in when I can.
