The important part of the movie is not the wrestling. It's about his character.

The key part about the portrayal of the wrestling was that it made the movie authentic as opposed to cheesey.... but it was not supposed to be a groundbreaking movie about wrestling or even what happens to its broken down stars from the past.

The point of the story was the Ram, you're supposed to feel sorry for him because he's a good guy whose life fell apart.
