That's an extreme, but there's a clearcut difference between a smark and a mark. There's also the Smart, but I'm lumping them in with smarks. If it makes you feel better, you can use "Casual" vs "Die Hard". |

Too much breakdown, homie. I meant, the people that marks don't give a shit about (my first answer off the top of my head was Jamie Noble) are the people that smarks love the shit out of.
And I'm unfamiliar with the use of "smart" in the discussion of wrestling fans. |

By the Business: Christian
By the Marks: Ted DiBiase By the Smarks: JBL And to elaborate. I'm not someone who is going to suggest that Christian needs to be totally main event, top tier, but I also don't think that WWE and the business in general realize how he can be used to elevate both a program and the people around him. TNA seemed to have a bit of a handle on it, and WWE may be realizing it now, as they're using him pretty well to up Jack Swagger. Check back with me in a few months to see if I have to change my mind on this. I continue to insist that Ted Dibiase does not get enough play by the average fan. Granted, this may be because his biggest main event program happened so long ago that I barely remember it myself, but that's also true of Piper and he still gets plenty of recognition. I continue to insist that he was the best heel of the 80s, and definitely in the top 5 of all time. JBL should be fairly self explanitory. Smarks overlook his amazing command of heel psychology because he's not a technical marvel and because he has such backstage power. What is overrated about him by the average Mr. Smarky McWhine-a-lot tends to be his value to the company. In an era of wrestling where a wrestler with a title has about as much impact as a 10-year-old with a foam-and-plastic belt replica, JBL made the WWE and later the US title as important as his first born child. |

By the Business: Elijah Burke
By the Marks: Mr. Perfect By the Smarks: Rey Mysterio This was really hard. I chose Elijah Burke by the business, because this guy had all the tools. He had a look, the ability to work, a legitimate background and mic skills. The man had charisma shining out of his ass, and the business never really gave him too much of a chance to hang around the level he should. For the marks, I chose Mr. Perfect. It's not that he wasn't over, or anything, but when you really look at how good a performer he was overall, and how many wrestlers he influences, there aren't enough people who list "Mr. Perfect" as their favourite wrestler in the general wrestling consciousness. I was almost going to go with The Undertaker by the smarks, but I chose Rey Mysterio. While I believe he is overrated by the business, I believe the smarks don't give him nearly enough credit for what he's done. Rey has broken some tremendous barriers. He holds the record for most WWE Tag Team Championships (tied with Eddie Guerrero and John Morrison at four apiece), and most WWE Cruiserweight Championships. He still has the greatest Royal Rumble performance (in kayfabe) of all-time. He's also the smallest man to have won a WWE World Title, which logically could put him contention as being pound-for-pound the most skilled competitor in WWE history (in a kayfabe sense). When you take into consideration his size, his race, his style and the success he has had, at the ripe young age of 34 years old (although I'm sure he doesn't feel it), I don't care what you say: Rey Mysterio is destined for the Hall of Fame. He is far more impressive on paper, sure, but even still, his matches are never terrible and are often quite fun. He also makes the WWE a lot of money. |

Edge has held the WWE Tag Team Championship once, with Rey Mysterio. He's held the World Tag Team Championship seven times with Christian, twice with Chris Benoit, once with Hulk Hogan and once with Randy Orton. I am talking strictly about the WWE Tag Team Championship that exists on SmackDown!.
