McCartney's replica Rock Band bass looks awesome, backwardsby Griffin McElroy { 4 hours ago }

Regardless of your feelings towards the mop-topped British rock sensation upon which the next Rock Band game is based, you have to admit -- The Beatles had them some lovely instruments. Two of these six-strings, Lennon and Harrison's Rickenbacker 325 and Gretsch Duo Jet, will be coming as $99 add-ons to The Beatles: Rock Band -- however, a third replica guitar will be coming in the game's Limited Edition Premium Bundle: Paul McCartney's Höfner bass guitar, pictured above.

According to a recent Harmonix press release, this wireless periph will work with all versions of Rock Band. It certainly looks gorgeous, but as our well-read colleagues at Engadget point out, this Höfner controller was designed for a right-handed player. McCartney, of course, was a Southpaw. Man, the game isn't even out yet, and already Harmonix is taking outrageous liberties with history. Unbelievable.

XBLive also has a decent length trailer of the game that's nothing but gameplay and cutscenes. I admit it was a charming presentation. I like the harmonizing integration, and having DLC makes a fool out of GH band exclusives.

There is no rockband 3 this year, so this is somewhat of a substitute for that.

Just stating what many "uninformed" people are probably thinking as well. The mass appeal of these games is what makes them so successful, and I'm pretty certain not every Rock Band owner is "in the know" with everything going on, so probably think similar things.

But you would know Harmonix isn't pulling an Activision because it's common knowledge Beetles is the only RB announced for this year. Every three months a new GH game is hyped.

I'm willing to bet Doggy had some passing knowledge that there were leagues more GHs floating around than RBs. He knew enough to point it out, in fact. Post #50. Go look. He sees one Rock Band spin-off and immediately finds it comparable to GHs strategy. And we are here.

The Beatles: Rock Band, DLC not compatible with other Rock Band games

Harmonix Creative Director Josh Randall confirmed to us today that we should think of the Rock Band platform and The Beatles: Rock Band as two totally separate entities. Meaning, that The Beatles: Rock Band tracks and DLC will not be playable with any other Rock Band songs and vice versa.

So, only owners of The Beatles: Rock Band will be able to download the Abbey Road album when its released as DLC later. There will also be no export feature for The Beatles: Rock Band into Rock Band. It's really a shame and one we hope that some licensing agreement in the future can fix.

It is a dick move, but it makes sense business-wise that they would want to force people to buy Beatles Rock Band if they wanted any chance of playing the Beatles.

Maybe...just maybe after the game is out for a while, they will give us an export option.

Rumor: The Beatles: Rock Band track list leaked

It reads like so many rhythm/music game releases in the past -- the ubiquitous track list leak. The Beatles: Rock Band is still a few months off from its September 9 release date but Ripten has gotten its hands on a leaked list of the possible tracks from the game (found after the break).

The list does include the three tracks we checked out in our hands-on with the game at E3, though it also looks an awful lot like a list of Beatles singles across their career. Ripten notes that the ten tracks found in the glorious opening to the game are all included in its leaked list -- and it is approximately the same amount of tracks we know the game will be shipping with -- though we've yet to receive any official confirmation or denial from MTV Games, Harmonix, or EA.
