Better Wrestler #78
Tanaka survives the stinkface, but this round he'll have to dodge a loose cannon...
Masato Tanaka VS ![]() Brian Pillman 3 days. |

Never really saw any Tanaka at all, which is why I didn't vote past few rounds.... but despite that, I'm voting this round and I'm voting Pillman.

Love Tanaka but I am a full Brian Pillman mark. Great wrestler, great personality, and he's from my hometown so that pretty much seals it.

AS CSL has already pointed out, the phrase Brian fucking Pillman is the best (first name) fucking (last name) usage in the business. Nothing comes close to it.

Pillman was awesome in the 80's and early 90's especially with austin, but as far as ring work and over-all presence was concerned he almost clears the bar but falls just a little short to Tanaka.

This would have been a great program to see. I think both men are on par in terms of in-ring ability. I'm putting Pillman over because he just has so much personality. Not that Tanaka doesn't, but Pillman just has loads of charisma that I do not believe Tanaka matches.

Brian "fuckin" Pillman.
I believe Pillman would have been one of the major players in the attitude era, and Austins main rival. Had he been totally healthy while harboring his Loose Cannon persona, he would have been elite. |

He played his insane charcters very well and he would have been over huge if he could've stayed healthy. |

Now this is more like ti!!! I'd taken a better wrestler/tag team hiatus due to the lack of good matchups. PIllman gets the vote here, and he is going in the HOF. Hopefully this will be the first HOF of many for him in the near future.

TPWW doesn't love X-Pac and is fairly indifferent to Rikishi.

Pillman was a great worker with a shit gimmick. Then he got a good gimmick, but couldn't work anymore... I think since he is an American wrestler, on American TV for virtually his whole career, that's falling short.
Tanaka is totally different. He doesn't have the New York look, and speaks no english. Yet he was insanely over with the Phily crowd because all his communications translated in his work. Everything you need to know about Masato's gimmick, and personality, and intentions were presented in violent visual format. He was restricted as far as having the potential of becoming a big success in the states, but his wrestling was so expressive to the audience, that he succeeded anyway. |

look, I know the guy was a good worker, but being over with one crowd in the states (1000 people deep or whatever) really doesn't say much at all. Someone enlighten me, was he a huge draw in Japan? This might get him some points, but we're talking about a guy who was nothing in the states (except in Philly) compared to a guy who was a star in the states for a long period of time.

99.7% of TPWW Wrestling Forum posters couldn't name 5 Jap guys. I think it's more of a 'TPWW loves hype' thing (I believe Tanaka, as far as most go, has gotten this far due to his matches against Mike Awesome)

Yup, and who wouldn't? Awesome and Tanaka were the main event of the DVD I got when getting back into ECW and I was all "Who the fuck is this guy?" and he was incredible.
Also, Flyin' Brian Pillman was my mums fave wrestler when I watched WCW on Saturday afternoons as a kid and she was in the same room
