Because by that time anyone who was over the age of 12 could identify more with an austin than they could bret hart as Austins character really brought the anti-hero to the forefront.Life itself is not drawn in lines of black and white Austins as a more realistic character than a all around moralistic good guy like a bret or hogan.
I don't think being a bully is something we should encourage. Yes, kids can become very heartless (no pun intended) at that age. I actually wrote a long blog post about that topic, and compared it to wrestling in 1997, because I was 14 at the time......but I'll spare you guys that post.

Anyhow, there were a lot of other guys that age that still cheered for Bret, and realized becoming a J.D. low life was not the way to go.

I remember when Triple H was watching the young kids with HBK and Flair two years ago, and said he'd have to wrestle forever.....I agree Hunter.......NEVER RETIRE! PLEASE!
