Funny, I was watching SummerSlam 99 last night with the "Love Her Or Leave Her" match between Test and Shane. He was over pretty good back then, shame how they wasted the opportunity to push him further with the whole Steph-HHH alliance.

He was actually really good in the ring too, at least I thought so. Fucking pump handle slam used to make me mark out. I just watched him in WM17 or 18 i dont remember which.

he played the power game and he had speed. I know his flaws, but if they kept the mic off of him he had that same aura of a good wrestler. I never said he was a god, but in today's industry he'd still be a upper mid carder as a plausible threat.

I liked Test. After the Invasion when he had that immunity thing I was so sure he was gonna get a decent push, but he didn't.

Then in 2003 when he changed his ring attire and cut his hair, I thought 'now he looks like a main eventer', though sadly WWE putting him in a storyline with Scott Steiner over Stacy Kiebler pretty much sums up that he was not gonna be receiving any respectable pushes.

I have always hated the pump handle slam because so many guys used it. It didn't make sense to me that Test's finish was basically the same as the Road Dogg's. As a big guy Test should have used something much bigger.

Gotta say I think that's unfair. Personally I think people have that reaction to Eddie and Owen (as in overstating how much they "marked for" or "respected" them). Test not so much.

I'm not saying "now that he's dead, looking back he could have..." I am saying "at the time they could have done a lot more". Honestly, he was no great loss to the business but he could have been pretty big back in 99/2000.

I held Test in the same esteem I hold Teddy Hart. I think they could both been major impacts. I never thought of Test in the same way as other dead "superstars", I always wanted him to be a bad ass, mostly because of his entrance music.

Hey I'm not condoning the use of steroids but in this situation I think Test suffered from being the sacrificial lamb. We all know Batista roids, Cena too more than likely, neither of those guys are gonna get dropped.

Perhaps we can agree that Test couldn't control his mouth (by saying that steroid use wasn't a problem/big deal) moreso than his use of them?

He couldn't cut it in ECW because he had an awful program with Lashley which Vince hated and his push as a monster ended. Coupled with his obvious drug use, this was the reason for his termination and I think he was released shortly after December to Dismember.

He couldn't cut it in TNA because they already had several guys who did the monster/enforcer. He had no unique selling point and his continued drug problems forced him out.

When I started watching, I remember Test using the Flying Elbow. Then he switched over to the Big Boot. The Pump Handle Slam was always like a strong move that could finish matches, but would mainly be used to set-up bigger spots, as you said.

I always liked Test. Death has in no way clouded my judgment of the man. I was more a fan back when he had the long hair and the long pants. I remember once when he squashed William Regal to win the European Title, and Jerry Lawler was like "WTF just happened?!"

He was one guy that the WWE had so many opportunities with, but they just never really capitalised on them. The whole Triple H/Steph thing could have made Test a star, but it might have been deemed "too soon" for him. Then there was the whole "immunity" thing, for which the WWE was just too cluttered. He got to wrestle The Undertaker at Summerslam as part of the Un-Americans, but instead of making Test look like a main eventer, they again made him look like a guy who could one day be a main eventer if they decided to use him in that capacity.

Ultimately, it was his own decision to not cut out steroids that lost him his spot in the WWE. That was his own fault, and you could just tell the guy was getting a little burned out. His ECW run was going really well until they decided to cut him, and if Test had just adapted, and gone back to being the athletic guy with size to him, he could have maybe been ECW Champion. Hell, if Chavo Guerrero could do it, then Test surely could have.

The 'Testdrive' was pretty awesome.

Matt Morgan quite reminds me of Test you know. Only Morgan's probably a better worker and hopefully doesn't have the substance problems.

I still hold that Test could have been a main eventer if they'd have capitalized on him during the whole Triple H/Stephanie/Vince storyline. Unfortunately he quickly fell to the back burner and started doing that stupid T&A gimmick with Albert.
