honestly, it's not that they go south every year, it's just that they have been in the worst position in all of baseball for so long. The Jays are good, but it's tough to hang on when you have the two best clubs in baseball in the same division. And then you throw in the Rays on top on that

if the Jays were in any other division, they would honestly be fighting for the divison lead or at least the wild card.

it sucks, I really like the jays, they are my favorite team behind the yanks. I grew up watching them with my Grandpa

Its basically a Lose-Lose situation for them. The team is too good to just dismantle and rebuild like the Orioles are trying to do and what took maybe 5-6 years for the Rays to do. At the same time, the division is getting much tougher now that the Rays are finally good and maybe within a few more years Orioles might become good.

Nah what else could they do? You can't have 5 in each division because then you'd have 15 in each league and then every night someone wouldn't have an opponent. Gotta have even numbers.

I know I've brought it up before, but Adam Dunn is seriously having an MVP caliber season for the Nationals. 3rd in HR, 3rd in RBIs, 4th in OPS, and he's hitting a very respectable .281


And yet he'll still get less votes than Ryan Howard.

Rumor has it the Mets might be willing to deal away Delgado and Wagner through waivers by the August 31 postseason roster deadline, effectively meaning they are throwing in the towel on 2009.

May as well. Reyes keeps having set-backs and with the Mets so far out of it there is really no point in bringing him back this year and risking him getting even more injured, ditto with Beltran.

Trading Delgado now gives Murphy the 1B job through the rest of the season to see how he can do, and Wagner clearly was not gonna have his $10 million option exercised.

This is commonplace, and typically the team will just pull the player back...but then again, this means a team is willing to pay Rios' enormous salary. Wonder if the Jays will ship him out.

This is what i never understand about MLB, they have the trade deadline but it seems to last maybe 1 week before some deals or trades occur. Did Twins actually do a trade or its one of those Designated for Assignment style deals ?

Seems odd to have a trade deadline but then allow trades after it.

Even longer actually...teams can continue making DFA moves throughout the remainder of the regular season, although anybody not in your organization by the end of August 31st is ineligible for the postseason. So really the only reason to make a move is if you are in an extremely tight race and need an extra body to even get you into the playoffs, or if you are picking up a guy under contract for the next season, etc.
