I don't understand why WWE wouldn't mention their past with ROH, even if not by name. It is not going to harm the WWE in any way shape or form, ROH is years off being any sort of competition.
Just mentioning that they are former champions or whatever in 'a top indie organisation' and name dropping a few other current WWE stars who have been there, something along the lines of "You have to remember, that is the same company that CM Punk was wrestling for before he came to the WWE, and look what he has achieved" will just put them over a bit, give them a bit of history and credibility. These aren't two guys off the street, but two experienced and capable wrestlers. There is no downside to it, I just don't get it! |

I get what you are saying, but the WWE do sort of hint at stuff like that. Evan Bourne wasn't just a "guy off the street." I remember during his early days they put him over as a guy who had toured the world and had success before coming to the WWE. And Matt Striker has done the same thing with Yoshi Tatsu ("He left fame in Japan to come to the WWE"). I hope they don't bring Bryan Danielson and Nigel McGuinness in as "rookies" who haven't wrestled a match before -- but the most I would hope for is that Danielson eventually gets revealed as a student of Shawn Michaels and/or William Regal, and that Nigel McGuinness is put over as a guy who has wrestled all over and was one of the hottest prospects outside of the WWE. The WWE don't even mention FCW on the air. Granted, I'm not sure if it would really help guys -- and it might actually hurt FCW -- but if Josh Mathews and Matt Striker don't mention Tyler Reks being the FCW Heavyweight Champion (or the best of the guys the WWE has training for the big time), then what good does promoting ROH's World Title have? |
