Most Braves fans will probably be happy next year when Cox retires, but most will miss him when he's gone. A mark of consistency for the Braves, and one of the best managers of all time.

At least the Yankees know they're making the playoffs already. Detroit and Minnesota are still in a pretty tight race (2.5 game difference), with 11 games to go: 1 more against Cleveland tonight, 3 against the White Sox this weekend, 4 against Minnesota themselves (UGH. Awful luck, that.), and the final 3 Oct. 2-4 against the White Sox again.

At least the good news is we know we will be in if we can get to 89 wins...sitting on 81 right now.

I'm not sure why exactly he's talking about this when his team is in a playoff race...but Jason Marquis has been very outspoken about his want to pitch for the Mets.

Given that he's probably going to be seeking a two, possibly even three, year deal...I say hell no. There is no way in hell the year he's having now is anything but a contract year.

At least Burnett is the "good" Burnett right now. His streaks usually last a couple of weeks of being dominant and a couple weeks of being dreadful so at least he's on the upturn right now.

I've kinda been hoping Minnesota wins the Central so the Yanks don't have to face Verlander/Jackson in a short series. But the last time I wished something like this we were eliminated by Cleveland in the first round.

If they do get out of the ALDS I think they go all the way though. That first series has been a problem for a while now though.

Didn't help the Yankees that Cleveland was unusually warm and humid that time of year which attracted the flies. Indians basically ignored the flies and staid focus during the game while Yankees got distracted and every inning or few minutes had to stop to get out bug sprays.

If Beckett gets into "playoff form" the Red Sox are gonna be dangerous. Clay Bucholz has been untouchable lately so if you add him in with Beckett & Lester, I like their odds. Just gotta hope Victor Martinez is catching every game and Francona doesn't pull some loyalty shit for 'Tek

I'd keep Tek for when Bucholz pitches since he still is one of the best when it comes to being with a young pitcher but agree that V-Mart needs to catch for everyone else or at least be used as a DH if Ortiz struggles.

I just hope that Delcarmen is nowhere near the roster when playoffs come since he's their most inconsistent bullpen player and basically messes up more than he should be.

He should take a flamethrower to the infield grass, throw a pipebomb from the mound to second base, use a shovel to throw dirt at the umpire, eat a rosin bag, fashion third base into a hat, squirt out the water in a water bottle in a way that makes it look like he's urinating, carve a giant "BC" into the dirt between first and second, climb to the top of the backstop caging, then do a moonsault onto the batter on deck.

Wow, first time in awhile I've felt genuinely good watching a Mets game. They may have put the final nail in the Marlins' slim playoff coffin with a 2 run come from behind 9th inning. Feels great after the Marlins ended the Mets in '07 and '08.

I think if anyone has a small chance to make the playoffs, its the Braves. Colorado does have a pretty brutal ending schedule, and the Braves play the Nats for two and the Marlins for one. It probably won't happen, but it could.
