The rule is that you must not interfere with the goalie's work. It used to be that as long as a player was in the crease, there would be no goal, though. That was in the early 90's.

Didn't they change or clarify the rule a year or so after Dallas won the Stanley Cup when the series winning goal occurred with a player in Buffalo's goal crease?

Some do, or have and might but as a rule that is not the intent.

Nobody just half asses a hit. I've played hockey all my life and I've never gone for a hit and just let up. Part of hitting is wearing down the other team.

Face it, players hit to hurt. If I have a chance to injure a player with a clean hit than I'm gonna do it. There's no rule in place for hits like Cooke on Savard so it's a clean hit like it or not. You can't suspend a player for a rule which doesn't exist.

There's a difference between finishing a hit and just blasting someone in the head. Of course I finish my checks. I've played hockey all my life too, and still do. The thing is, a hit to the body might hurt, even take your breath away for a moment, but the guy will get up. A hit to the head is dangerous and could easily kill a guy one of these days. Is that what hockey is about? No. Hockey is a rough sport, sure, but you can be rough without beheading a guy.

Would ESPN be hypocrites if 2 weeks ago they call the Bruins soft for not retaliating against Cooke even though the game itself was very close while this week calling the Bruins to not retaliate since its possible for a Crosby/quality-Pens player to get hurt ?

Barry Melrose is the worst about this since he basically "trashed" the Bruins 2 weeks ago and now wants them to just play and not retaliate saying it would be better to win than hurt someone.

I agree NO GOAL. Brett "hey guys i'm american now" Hull was definitely in the crease. But I think the Stars would have won that series regardless.

2 minutes into the game and Cooke already in a fight against Thorton. Caught him when Cooke was trying to get off the ice.

Dam NHL came down fast, 10 minute misconduct (not game misconduct though) to go with the 5 minutes for fighting.

Yeah messed up although there was some ambiguity on the 10 minutes for a bit since refs didn't clear up until a while later it was just a normal 10 minute misconduct and not a game misconduct.

Been disappointed by the Bruins today since today could have been something similar to the playoffs against the Candians where they lost in 7 but never gave up which ended up helping them a lot the following year. After the 1st period, they fell flat again and started to do the same stuff that's been causing them problems all year (bad passing or spacing, bad defense, etc).
