You're kidding right? May would get his ass handed to him on a silver platter if he tried to mess with Laraque. Laraque is bar none, the best fighter in the NHL. The only guy that would come close to beating Laraque is Zdeno Chara....who is like 6'9.

![]() Therefore, my comment still stands. Laraque could legitimately beat the shit out of ANYONE in the NHL. EDIT - Just saw the video....that doesn't prove anything. Like the announcers said, "he got the jump on Laraque"....and then just fell on him. |

As far as Brashear goes, do you still think he's at #2? He definitely was at one point but I'm not so sure now. McGratton should probably be on that list somewhere. When Kevin Bieksa is pissed off, I wouldn't be surprised if he was top 10. |

McGratten is probably around 6-7. Orr beat him decisivly. Bieska is nowhere near top 10, although the Canucks have Rypien who is probably the best middleweight. You to take into account weight classes matters alot. Brashear got knocked down a peg in the hockeyfights world when Belak ko'd him last year but he's still fantastic. Laraque isn't looked upon too highly because he throws two punches and then wrestles the guy to the ice but he's damn good. Based on this years fighting records, Orr is probably the top guy right now with wins over Koci, Parros, McGratten and Carkner. This year could be the toughest year ranking guys because there really isn't a dominate guy and it's hard to rank Laraque #1 when he A) doesn't play, B) doesn't fight when he does play) C) Has only fought Orr and Erskine and really wasn't dominate in either fight. |

Lucic returning to the Bruins has really turned around the team. It didn't help that Thomas has been meh in the net so far but can't blame him since last year was basically a career year and too many injuries meant an inconsistent team. Since Lucic returned, team has been playing much better and more determined.

Richards should have been given 10-20 games, because that type of hit easily could have broken his neck.

Dude, I just posted reasons why Crosby is inferior to those players, if you could make an argument to nullify why crosby is better with real facts and not just "He won the cup at a your age or he is the captain of the cup champs" real details like I posted and maybe I will change my mind.

Thornton is a great player, but as Heyman said, he chokes under pressure apparently, which is why I ranked Iginla above him. Iginla can carry a team on his shoulders as he proved in Calgary's cup run a couple of years ago. Crosby and Malkin are pretty much interchangeable, I'll give you that. Both are great puch handlers, can carry the load even when playing with players who would be on the second line mostly anywhere else, and are sound defensively. Atop player needs to play both ways. I ranked Ovechkin above because he's just so overwhelming that he's hard to stop, but even then, I wouldn't call him a good defensive player. Randomly checking players does not qualify as defensive play. So there you go. Crosby and Malkin play with worst players than Thornton, Datsyuk or Ovechkin and still turn in the numbers. That's why they're good. The whinniness only makes me respect him less, but I don't think he's a bad player for that. |

Does everyone here "hate" Ovechkin or what, everywhere he goes he gets booed by other fans. I guess they think he is a dirty player? I get why Crosby gets booed because he is the whiniest vagina of a human being to ever play hockey, but it just seems like Ovie is 2 Hot 2 Handle so everyone hates him

Would YOU rather have the fans of opposing teams CHEER Ovechkin as he scores against the home team? Why would you NOT boo against a player that is most likely to cause headaches for the home team. THINK ABOUT IT. |

Most of the time I cheer for the best players in the league unless they are assholes or something because I like watching them play. I've gone to Nationals games when they play the Cardinals just to see Albert Pujols. If I was a fan of another hockey team I wouldn't cheer when Ovechkin scored against us, I would just be like "Dang that guy is crazy good, I wish he was on my team."

As for Getzlaf and Thornton, they have always played with good linemates, so we cant tell if they would be good on a crappy line. Given that logic, Kovalchuk should be higher and I agree with you Iginla analysis. Thing I am trying to say is, the players I listed play the whole game and not mostly the scoring and assisting part. I hate myself for making this comparison but Crosby is like Gretzky years ago, a finesse player who doesnt dig in the corners, take/give hard hits without whinning and isnt the first player on the backcheck they play the part of the game where they dont get hurt, whereas the rest I listed get banged up on a nightly basis. Anyways, like I said Crosby got skill, I agree but not in every aspect of the game and if he didnt whine so much it would be easier to respect him. Switch the 2nd and 3rd and I would be more able to agree with you. |

You are joking right?!?! Everything you just said here is completely false. Crosby digs very effectively in the corners, and DOES give/take pretty nice shots at people. He is a very tenacious and positionally sound player. Crosby is also an excellent two way player, and I have no idea where this "isn't the 1st player in the backcheck' bullshit is coming from. As far as Crosby/Malkin goes - you DO realize that a major reason why Malkin racks up points (aside from the fact that he's talented as hell), is the fact that the TOP defenders and shut down forwards are all over Crosby's ass right? (which is why often times, the Pens sometimes put Malkin and Crosby on the same line to counter this). Crosby does whine a lot, but the guy IS constantly getting smacked HARD due to the fact that he's a sheer threat almost each and every time. I love Ovechkin, and he IS a better player than Crosby, but lets not forget who outplayed who when the Caps/Pens played last year. |

If I were going top 10 in the league right now I'd rank it
1. Orr 2. Brashear 3. Laraque 4. Godard 5. Belak 6. McGratten 7. Koci 8. Parros 9. Boogaard 10. Shelley |

and don't give me that crap about Lucic being top 10 because he doesn't fight anybody within 20 pounds of him. Erskine beat him easily and that's the cloest thing to a heavyweight that Lucic has ever fought outside of Neil.

Chara would end everybody's life. Yeah his balance isn't the greatest during fights but he just rag dolls everyone.
Lucic is also tough as fuck but hasn't "proven" himself nor should he have to. He has fought some tough guys though... Ivanans, Neil, Clarkson |

FA it's hard to rank Laraque when he isn't very active and to my knowledge hasn't gotten off to a good start this year. Brashear is at least pretty active and wins the majority of his fights. Boogs is entering Laraque territory. He doesn't fight very much at all, and when he does he's not as good as he was, although I think his back had alot to do with his decrease in fighting last year. Boogaard is another guy with shitty balence. Belak would be higher if he fought more. He was hands down the heavyweight champion last year, but he does this every firggen season: doesn't fight alot to start but then picks it up.
Orr has fought 7 times already. Wins against Carkner, Parros, Koci, McGratten, and Godard. Draw against Laraque and a loss against Brashear. That's a helluva fight card already. Last edited by Gertner; 11-26-2009 at 11:14 PM. |
