Not for me. I'm judging both cases on a seperate basis. I brought the real financial details up in response to Supreme. Didn't really mean to tangle the issues.

I say this not only about the Yankees, but about all teams.
That's how I view it. If the Red Sox get knocked out, their season was a failure. Cut and dry. The ultimate goal is to win the world series.

Remember when the Mariners won the most games ever and then got bounced from the playoffs?
A professional sports season is all or nothing. You either win the championship, or fall short like the rest of the teams.

That doesn't mean the team sucks, or that all losers are equal failures. It just means "there's always next year". The season didn't work out.

I guess I never really thought about the team that didn't win the World Series a failure. I guess it's just I never thought about 29 teams being failures. You really bring up some very strong points. I think if we continue to play the way we have up until now I think we could win the World Series.

It really depends on if these post season blues for CC and A-rod have really ended or not. I think that's a huge factor.

I don't like it, but I honestly think the Yankees will win the World Series.

I thought, and still think, the Red Sox team is better built for the playoffs and had potential to open up a can in the playoff format. But they've just not been playing well at all, so I can't call them the favorite right now by any stretch.

for Yankee fans (including myself) anything less then a World Series Championship is always a failure these days. We've been spoiled for over 10 years now with win after win that it's almost unacceptable to not make it to the World Series. We've been brought back down to earth a little the past few years, but I can't sit here and deny this claim.

yea. and I really don't consider that outstanding considering it's almost been over 15 years since the Rockies and Marlins came into the majors. Plus the Rockies made it to the World Series last year.

Did not expect a sweep from the Dodgers against the Cardinals but they really shut down Pujhols and the middle of the order bats of the Cardinals better than I thought they could.

NLCS should be good series since you'd have the tough division matchup of Rockies/Dodgers or a rematch of last year's Philies/Dodgers.

2 years ago! Last World Series was the Rays/Phillies. The 2007 World Series was the Sox/Rox World Series.

And I did not expect the Cards to be swept especially with Pujols and Holliday playing for them. (I still have a Hard time typing out Holliday Because my brain always tells me to type out Halladay. Why do their last names have to be so fucking similiar?)

Cards were not expected to make the playoffs this year.

Kinda weird to hear that last night as they are a very solid team.Just because they didn't last year they are a wash? I thought that was a shallow statement. I figured they'd be in the thick of it this year.

Actually, it is pretty impressive when you consider this expansion era to the other two. All four expansion teams from the 90s have made the World Series. The longest was the Rockies at 15 years. Compare that to the previous expansion teams:

Angels: 42 years
Rangers: never
Astros: 44 years
Padres: 16 years
Expos/Nationals: never
Mariners: never
Blue Jays: 16 years

Only the Mets, Royals, and Brewers made it to the WS quicker than the Rockies but even then, none of them come close to doing as quick as the D-Backs (4 years) and Marlins (5 years) who both won it.

Don't forget the Brewers won the Wild Card last year and it was slated to be a 2 team race between Chicago and Milwaukee.

Plus the Cards had so many pitching questions entering the season. Could Carpenter and Wainwright pitch full seasons? Who would be the #3? Who would close? They emphatically answered all three of those questions all while Chicago and Milwaukee stumbled.

Carpenter was coming back healthy. Franklyn showed last season in the 2nd half that he was a capable closer. They have a lot of offence. I personally didn't see Milwaukee being anything like they were last year. There's no reason they shouldn't have been, but I just didn't see them doing anything significant this year. The Cubs were a dissapointment, but I saw them and the Cards coming out of the division with one being the winner and the other the wild card.

Whatever though.

I saw the D'Backs as the West winners/contenders too.

Apparently there is next to no chance Holliday is back in St. Louis next year. Boras is his agent so testing free agency was already likely, but the big holdup is gonna be trying to get a Pujols extension done 2 years in advance.

From the sounds of things, the STARTING point for Albert is gonna be the 10 years, $275 million A-Rod got. Wonder how close he'll get to $300 million.

GOD DAMN! Pujols is a great hitter but I know who I am not gonna get when/if he is a free agent. That's just to much. And besides I unfortunately don't think he's clean. I think it's only a matter of time before he is tested positive for Roids.

No one can hit this well for this long. It just seems kinda peculiar. I think Albert may be on the list with Manny and Papi at some point unfortunately.
