I was getting a drink while Conan and everyone was playing that song, came back and saw the beginning of Fallon's show. First time I've ever liked something he's done.

damndest - Well, I wasn't sure of what you meant when you asked that. I was even going to ask in what context you meant. But anyhow, in regards of Leno, I say let's wait and see how he does before people assume he sucks. He hosted the show for 17 years. Clearly he was doing something right.

Also, according to the polls on AOL, many people prefer Leno.

Well, you're talking to one of those people, and a whole lot of others use AOL too. Thousands and thousands infact, and those people also watch TV.

Interesting how you try to discredit the source like it doesn't matter, thinking that makes a difference in the numbers. Sadly it does not.

I don't think Leno will have any trouble coming back, pretty much for the opposite reasons that Conan's show didn't work. He's an established guy at that slot. Conan didn't have the two year chance he did. Also Leno will be given actual shows for lead-ins. Not a 10:00 talk show.

Best recent run-in that worked very well was how Spike TV used TNA wrestling to lead into UFC when they 1st got the rights to UFC. Then once UFC got popular, they switched it around so that UFC now leads into TNA as a way to bring up TNA ratings.

Problem with NBC was they went too cheap and short term with making Leno as a 10pm show and when it wasn't working, they panicked and now its going to cost them millions they didn't want to spend in the 1st place.

I assumed they got TNA 1st but yeah you are right. Forgot all about Ultimate Fighter debuting before their Unleashed show since Spike TV got TNA about a month after loosing WWE Raw.

I would bet if you looked at the user demographic of AOL it is heavily skewed towards the above 40 crowd.

Does over 42,000 sound better? Cause that is close to the amount of people that voted, and said they prefer Jay over Letterman and Conan.

Haha. So first you try to discredit AOL, now you try to discredit me. All because you're losing the argument. It's fun watching some people squirm.

Your posts actually are a perfect example of some of my time here on this board, and Rajah: You get your asses kicked in a debate, so you resort to personal insults. Pretty much a sign that you lost the debate of the original topic.

Zeeboe, 42K is a drop in the bucket of the total viewership and AOL isn't a good "source" because it is skewed. I don't really need to discredit you, as you do that on your own quite well!

And what do you base your AOL hate off of, hmm? Did you get too many TOS's back in the day or something for being an ass to people in AOL chatrooms or something? Is this where the AOL hate is coming from?

Anyhow, don't even answer that. Let's just try to get back to the topic that you randomly decided to change.

This is not about AOL or me.

Like we've discussed: damndest tries to discredit the voters because he thinks most of them are 40 and older, (and even if they were, it still wouldn't matter) you try to discredit AOL, you try to discredit the number of the amount of voters, and then you try to discredit me.

You're wrong. Stop trying to find excuses. Accept what is, get over it, and then drop it.

It seems there are a lot of things that you aren't getting. The AOL crowd, 40 and over or not, is only a small percentage of the entire viewing population that watches these talk shows. This is what you need to understand. Someone could put a poll somewhere else and it wont be the same.

And Leno could have left if he wanted. I even watched his show where he explained what went down between him and NBC. In fact in that interview it seemed like he just went with the flow and mentioned many times about NBC wanting to fire him. It sounded like he wanted to leave and he could have but he just went okay whatever I'll take the job at 10pm. Oh my show isn't doing so well? I see and you want to move me to 11:30 and push Conan back? Okay I guess. Now where are my pants?

I used to just think that Jay Leno wasn't funny. Now I think he is a jerk.

I know it was more NBC's doing than his, but I still feel like he had a hand in it.

(I don't care how stupid that sounds, I'm sticking with it.)

So you're sticking with stupidity is what you're posting basically?

Seriously, Jay Leno was ready to retire, and move on. NBC would not let him. Leno was under contract, so his hands were tied. It's amazing how many unformed people there are out there. But I think your above post just about sums it up for all Leno haters - Those people don't care about the truth. They're just gonna close their ears while screaming how much they hate Jay Leno.

Where did I say I was closing my ears? I said I know it was more NBC's doing. I know Leno was ready to retire. I know NBC did what they had to do to keep him (I even said that).

The end of my post was more sarcasm than anything.

I'm kind of on this bandwagon. I don't think he orchestrated it or anything but I'm willing to bet he had his say in it somewhere. It's just alot easier to blame NBC because to the average television viewer, NBC doesn't have a face.

If Jay Leno wanted to leave, he could have. The issue was that NBC did not want him going somewhere else (obviously), so they made it hard for him to "opt out" I guess is the right wording to use.

So again, I know it was more NBC's doing, but part of me suspects that Jay wanted the 11:35 slot back all along (in fact he said just that).

What irks me the most about all of this is I remember reading an interview with Leno a few years back about how he's never had much of an emotional attachment to the job, it's all about business to him, and it really shows. Conan obviously has a great deal of respect for the position and cares more about the integrity of the programming than the bottom line.

Couldn't also because he wanted to keep his staff of over one hundred people employed, right? And because he didn't want to ditch NBC, the network that made him a star when they need him the most.

No way, couldn't be because of that.....

You mean how Conan wanted to keep his staff of over two hundred people, but couldn't because Leno whined about getting that slot back?

And yes, I know NBC offered to push Conan back half an hour, but really what does that do? It's still shitty how it went down no matter how you look at it. NBC comes across as being stupid, Leno comes across as being a dick, and Conan is out of a job for seven months because he didn't want to stay and ruin an almost 60-year tradition.

He could have, you know, kept the show he already had. To my knowledge it wasn't on the verge of being canceled. In fact, it was doing just as they expected it would at that slot.

And if NBC would put on some decent programming (outside of late night of course), they wouldn't need the star power of Leno so desperately.

If this would have happened, Leno could have retired (or gone to ABC or whatever). NBC would not have had to do so much to keep him because their ratings wouldn't (theoretically) have been in the shitter at this point.
