When Edge's music hit, I wasn't sure that he would win. I knew he would eliminate Chris Jericho, but I thought there was a chance they would repeat the MVP/Miz spot with both men going over and touching the floor. I guess it's all subjective. I will say this: I sort of guessed Edge's music hitting when it did. "Surprised" isn't the right word about Edge's return. I wasn't shocked by Cena's either. The dude works hard -- was it really so difficult to see him beating an injury and returning ahead of schedule? |

As for who Edge will face, just look at the expected line-up for WrestleMania:
* The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels * Sheamus vs. Triple H * John Cena vs. Batista * Edge vs. Chris Jericho * Randy Orton vs. Ted DiBiase * CM Punk vs. Rey Mysterio Now, which of those matches is Edge in? Versus Chris Jericho. The safe bet would be Chris Jericho winning the Elimination Chamber with Shawn Michaels' help (I don't think it will be a full heel turn, but I think it will really express how much Shawn Michaels wants this match if he helps an arch-nemesis win the World Heavyweight Title), and then Edge wanting to cash in his shot against the man who hurt him. How can the WWE fuck this up? By, for some reason, putting The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels as the headlining match, making both World Titles look like afterthoughts and cutting the balls off Jericho and Edge. I can see the WWE doing that. Now, the WWE does throw wrenches into their ideas some of the time. For example: While Sheamus vs. Triple H seems like a logical excuse to be a WWE Title Match, the WWE could very easily have Randy Orton vs. Ted DiBiase for the WWE Title as a way of "boosting" that match (although I don't think it needs it). They could also put the WWE Title on John Cena, and have Vince McMahon grant Batista a title shot at Mania. Ew. But it wouldn't surprise me. Sheamus vs. Triple H could be a "grudge match," because the WWE may not feel that Sheamus is "ready" for the main event. I think those are where the variables will lay this year -- and not so much in the specific match-ups. Although, if the WWE does shock us with a surprise match-ups, I could see Edge going for the WWE Title. Because I feel that Chris Jericho will be connected to Edge no matter what he does at WrestleMania, I think Jericho would do an Edge, lose the first Elimination Chamber, and then take Kofi Kingston's spot in the second EC -- winning the WWE Title. The Undertaker would retain the World Heavyweight Title, and Shawn Michaels would find a way to challenge for that (perhaps Vickie Guerrero trades Chris Jericho for Shawn Michaels behind the scenes after the first Chamber). I see this turning into a Fatal 4-Way with Triple H and probably Sheamus, although Kofi Kingston's new character would probably be pissed off with Jericho for taking him out of the match. Either Kofi then enters Money in the Bank and vows to cash in that night (and probably does), or Kofi takes Sheamus' spot in the match, and we get Jericho vs. Edge vs. Triple H vs. Kofi. I know that sounds like a mess, and it is, but the WWE did that with their World Heavyweight Title Match last year. Another I could see: CM Punk manages to win the World Heavyweight Championship in the Elimination Chamber -- Edge then goes after that World Title. This may seem to leave Rey Mysterio in the dark, but he and Punk have not had any sort of build to their WrestleMania program yet. Rey's story to this point has been trying to reclaim the World Title so he can prove that he is not a fluke. Rey could earn a title shot by competing in Money in the Bank -- and for a guy who is known as such a high-flyer, Rey has been in surprisingly few Ladder Matches. This also leaves Chris Jericho without a program, but I could honestly see them turning Big Show face and putting him against Jericho. Does it seem like Jericho gets the shaft? Probably, but Jericho could also win his match. As the heat machine he is, he'd recover anyway. So my obvious vote goes to Chris Jericho vs. Edge for the World Heavyweight Title, with the slightly more abstract vote going to CM Punk vs. Edge for the World Heavyweight Title -- with Punk likely bringing up Edge needing to use pain-killers because of all his injures and the like. |
