Anyways, after thinking about it, if they're going to make this change they should have done it like this:
Whether team A scores a field goal or touchdown, they must kick off to team B who then has a chance to match the score. If team B matches team A's score from their initial drive, the game then goes to sudden death rules. I don't understand why they're limiting the chance at offense to a field goal. Just go all or nothing. I think the biggest detraction from the overtime rules are that one team may not get a chance at offense and that the game is decided on the flip of a coin (which I personally think is a bullshit excuse to lose a game.) Make it all or nothing with the point scoring (not just a field goal, include touchdowns) and you eliminate the biggest criticism, at least in my opinion. |
