WOOOOOO. Joel Sherman, citing sources, says that Omar Minaya will be relieved of his duties as soon as the season ends. Jeff Wilpon is currently searching for his replacement.

Hoping for Towers. Byrnes, Daniels, or Krivsky would be good too.

Whoever it is has gotta be somebody with an eye towards building for 2012. The 2010 payroll was $126 million. The 2011 payroll is already at $108 million and that doesn't include Reyes' $11 million option which will surely be picked up and big arbitration raises for Pagan, Pelfrey, and Dickey. So the 2011 Mets will in all likelihood match their payroll from this year without bringing anybody new in.

Hopefully the 2011 Mets can pull a Padres while planting the seeds for a good team in 2012. At least change should be forthcoming.

How about Torre? Now that the Dodgers have decided to get rid of Torre and have Mattingly as the head coach. I have read a lot of stories about Torre maybe managing the Mets.

I think that Wilpon himself could be the problem. There's a good chance that a lot of guys may not want to work for him. Then again, he will still give you the chance to work with a big payroll so who knows.

Omar really is a head-scratcher. His first 2 years with the team were extremely productive. He brought in some clubhouse leaders and assembled a killer bullpen in 2006 that helped to offset the very suspect rotation they had that year. When the Mets got knocked out in 2006, few predicted they'd fall as far as they did.

But after that year, he slowly jumped the shark. Outside of the Santana deal (which, despite the injuries, was clearly worth it since they would have been infinitely worse without him), just about every other deal was questionable. I can even forgive the Alou contract because he absolutely raked on the rare occasion he was healthy...but 2 years for El Duque? 4 years for Castillo? $36 million for Inconsistent Ollie?

Worst of all, his biggest issue is that he only seems to patch up one hole each offseason.

Yeah this could come back to bite me in the ass hard. Like really hard, but I'm gonna do it anyway.

Phillies are the best team baseball and absolutely should be the favorite to win the World Series right now. No team in the National league really scares me. Also not really worried about any American League team this year.

Yeah and this year they have a really good Cole Hamels and then Roy Oswalt.

Halladay hopefully can have at least a similar postseason as Clifton Phifer Lee did last year. He of course will not duplicate it, because Cliff Lee was God like... Still though.

Given the incompetence of the Mets organization, part of me almost thinks they are just gonna let Minaya stay for the final year of his contract since the new GM will have virtually no money to work with this first year.

Of course, with Minaya knowing he'll be on his way out soon, he'll probably make some ridiculously bad move trying to take the Mets down for the future.

What good is a “deep farm system” if you don’t win a World Series? Do they have a trophy for best-run organization? If they do, they can keep it, because the idea that your club is somehow “better run” than any other is pure manure. You have exactly 0 (that’s a Zero) World Series Titles since 1991, that’s a fact. Your Manager, with each failed appearance in the postseason, continues to add to his well-earned reputation as most undeserving of respect, as he continues to set the bar for underachievement higher each season since taking over for Tom Kelly. At least that guy won something. Ron Gardenhire has done nada. The players? You can keep them all, each and every one of them. Including Joe Mauer, including Justin Morneau, and whoever else you’ve got. I wouldn’t trade a single one of mine, for any one of yours. Sound crazy? Maybe, but that’s what I feel a true fan should think. I have had a real eye-opening of late reading all of the comments from aloof, and ridiculously smug Twins fans on the comment boards this season. A more self-important group I have yet to encounter on the Internet. Preaching about how real fans are respectful of other teams, and how a rivalry should be conducted, and wishing each luck, and good health and the rest of it….for this sentiment, I have exactly 3 words to share: Go Fuck Yourselves, and you know who you are that I am speaking of. This “high and mighty” appearance of innocence, and decency is the biggest crock in all of fandom. Add to this the salty play that these “white hat wearing” Twins have displayed against our club this season, with the Delmon Young cheap shot thuggery at home plate, and the numerous “unintentional” hit batsmen during the season series, capped off by the high up and in tailing fastball by Carl Pavano that hit Paul Konerko in the face….that’s right folks, in the face! Add it all up, and my kettle hath just about boiled over.

Don’t be confused, this is not sour grapes, nor is it the rantings of an ill-informed fan on the short end of the Division stick, but it is simply my own personal “Declaration of Independence” from anything related to the Minnesota Twins. I respect your tradition of winning baseball. Anyone with 2 eyes can see that it is a quality, and competetive product that is on the field season after season, I just don’t care for it, and do not wish any part of it for my chosen team. Yours is not anything special to emulate, copy, or blueprint in any form or fashion. Unless it results in multiple World Series Titles, it is just another team like the other 29 fighting to deliver to its fans, the Holy Grail of Baseball. Find that Grail, Twins, then we’ll talk…until then, there is nothing else to say. Picture this image each time you see my name…

Oh, and PS- I will be rooting AGAINST your team this postseason (as usual). CWSWSC+ 5 years, and counting…but at least it isn’t since 1991. Someone posted that we will be reduced to watching the tape of our ’05 World Series after we were eliminated from contention this season, and I thought to myself…True, I will, but at least I will be able to watch the DVD that I own.
