I guess all the Girardi talk is because I think he's originally from Illinois and since the Cubs job opened up, people think he'll "go back home".

Keep in mind, guy got a Manager of the Year award with the Marlins and got himself another ring. THE ONLY way Girardi does not get retained next season(he's in the final year of his 3 year deal now), is if the Yankees collapse Mets style.

WOOOOOO. Joel Sherman, citing sources, says that Omar Minaya will be relieved of his duties as soon as the season ends. Jeff Wilpon is currently searching for his replacement.

Hoping for Towers. Byrnes, Daniels, or Krivsky would be good too.

Whoever it is has gotta be somebody with an eye towards building for 2012. The 2010 payroll was $126 million. The 2011 payroll is already at $108 million and that doesn't include Reyes' $11 million option which will surely be picked up and big arbitration raises for Pagan, Pelfrey, and Dickey. So the 2011 Mets will in all likelihood match their payroll from this year without bringing anybody new in.

Hopefully the 2011 Mets can pull a Padres while planting the seeds for a good team in 2012. At least change should be forthcoming.

I think that Wilpon himself could be the problem. There's a good chance that a lot of guys may not want to work for him. Then again, he will still give you the chance to work with a big payroll so who knows.

Omar really is a head-scratcher. His first 2 years with the team were extremely productive. He brought in some clubhouse leaders and assembled a killer bullpen in 2006 that helped to offset the very suspect rotation they had that year. When the Mets got knocked out in 2006, few predicted they'd fall as far as they did.

But after that year, he slowly jumped the shark. Outside of the Santana deal (which, despite the injuries, was clearly worth it since they would have been infinitely worse without him), just about every other deal was questionable. I can even forgive the Alou contract because he absolutely raked on the rare occasion he was healthy...but 2 years for El Duque? 4 years for Castillo? $36 million for Inconsistent Ollie?

Worst of all, his biggest issue is that he only seems to patch up one hole each offseason.

Yeah this could come back to bite me in the ass hard. Like really hard, but I'm gonna do it anyway.

Phillies are the best team baseball and absolutely should be the favorite to win the World Series right now. No team in the National league really scares me. Also not really worried about any American League team this year.

Yeah and this year they have a really good Cole Hamels and then Roy Oswalt.

Halladay hopefully can have at least a similar postseason as Clifton Phifer Lee did last year. He of course will not duplicate it, because Cliff Lee was God like... Still though.

Honestly, Phillies/Yankees and Phillies/Rays feel the only realistic options, two matchups we've just seen.

Gonna be rooting for everybody not named the Phillies or Yankees.

How about Torre? Now that the Dodgers have decided to get rid of Torre and have Mattingly as the head coach. I have read a lot of stories about Torre maybe managing the Mets.
