This is a bad move in terms of storylines IMO. they should have had Cena chase the title

And it wasn't even closing the show........... what would be so wrong with the heel retaining?

2 things I take from that match:

1) No purpose for Batista to win the title just to lose it a month later especially with how good they built up heel Batista

This is a bad move. It wasn't closing the show, so a face didn't need to win. They totally fucked a great possible feud up. Batista's character takes a big blow from this and they could have had Cena chase the title and had a couple big rematches leading to a big title win in the summer or something.
