I'm kinda gutted...

...that all matches seem to end with some "finisher".

I dunno if it's part of the aim towards the kids and that the wrasslers are now like Power Rangers to Vincey, but ffs, I ws watching Swagger and Orton and it dawned on me. Wrestling matches only really finish when the "finisher" is applied.

This don't count when u got weapons or outside interference etc. But, in general, it's always this one way someone wins.

The two mid rope splashes Swagger did were awesome and tbh, I'd like it if now and again they'd let someone win like that. Yet the fans are always like "one-two-th... ohhhhhhhhh" like they expected it to actually get a win, but it never does. Meh.

Does everyone here love the finisher doing the business, or......

Pretty much true until certain peeps are in the ring. I've been less and less interested with the WWE, but i still watch it and still ordered Mania. Just as I have since we got Sky back in 1990! But meh, ffs, it's just doing my head in now. So fucking annoying and with Miss McMahon gunning for whatever she is, there's no chance the kiddie rating is going. Pfft.

We need Shane to take over and fuck things up. Old skool. Bring back the MSP too. With Ziggler coming home.

Honestly, I'm so used to this fact that it doesn't bother me at all. I just accept it.

In fact, I'm so conditioned to the point that when Van Dam won with the Split Legged Moonsault last night I felt it was a weak finish. But it shouldn't be viewed as such.

They have done a much better job in the last year or so explaining how early covers are just to wear down an opponent because they force him to exert energy kicking out. That makes more sense than McMahon's old "ONE, TWO, HE GOT...no, I thought for sure he had him there..." at every single cover of the match.

I don't have a problem with finishers. They're as much a part of the wrestler's character as his promo, entrance, and anything else. If we didn't see them we'd be going "WTF, no RKO?" You just need to set them up in a way so you don't see them coming five moves away.

What might be a good idea is to establish multiple finishers for everyone. Say, three moves that could equally end a match, then the proper finisher which is busted out in longer/tougher matches (PPV) or during angles. It would make them more special, too.

Hell, you could even take this concept but just make it variations of the same move. Like Orton has the RKO and the Super RKO.

But most of the time only one will end the match. For example, I tend to see more STF submissions than FU pins from Cena.

I think I mentioned it in a previous thread, but I really wish WWE would adopt the Japanese/indie style of wrestlers have several "signature moves", any of which could end a match, rather than one, maybe two "finishers".

Also, Taker's chokeslam is a match finisher for undercards, the tombstone when he wants to prove a point and the last ride almost never lately. Hell's gate also is not used on tv as much as last year.

Taker probably has the most finishers of anyone in WWE.

Even seems that Show's Chokeslam is all but gone as a finisher.

I feel like Finlay has had a lot to do with the current change that is happening with match finishes. What change? I have noticed a change in the past two or so years of WWE utilizing more creative ways to end matches, utilizing count dq's more effectively, and also submissions.

Finlay several years ago, was doing some really old school tactics in the ring (innovative however by todays WWE practices). There are other guys as well (Shawn Michaels, Jericho, CM Punk, and Rey Mysterio for example, who utilize the ring and make more creative ways to use or break the "rules" in a wrestling match. I love that WWE will frequent that dq by excessive force these days. You know, when a wrestler can't defend himself and the attacker won't lay off, these days you will get disqualified for that where as earlier in the decade and further into the past rules like that, breaking the 5 count, outside interference, and knock out finishes were very very rare.

So the simple fact that WWE does do this with their "PG Era" make wrestling matches more entertaining because now those knock out, tko, and dq finishes actually mean something usually other than an easy way to not have to put somebody over clean.

Maybe your thinking why I brought Finlay up, well he is a master of utilizing the RING as a weapon. All of the cool things he does on the apron, with the ropes, the turnbuckles, the ring post, the steps, the rails etc... all of that stuff he has like 10 cool moves for that seem to be endless. Other examples of guys like that are Regal, Punk, Mysterio, Taker, Jericho ... but there aren't many. It's almost like a sign of experience, you don't see the OVW class using too much creativity in their wrestling. The FCW wrestlers are probably getting more territoryesque training due to working with Dusty Rhodes and other good wrestlers, AND having more focus put on them.

Ramble I know I know.
